Wanted: Disco2 Transfer Box
Hi all,

I'm (again) after a D2 transfer box for my 90, doesn't matter if manual/auto/Td5/V8 but must have diff lock as I don't have fancy electronics to get me unstuck Wink

Thanks

I am sure you're aware that Disco2 transfer boxes with difflocks are fairly rare and tend to be snapped up by people like me who have Disco2s without any of the difflock internals. There is however no reason why you can't transplant the front wheel drive take-off including difflock from a 90 tbox onto a Disco2 tbox if you are after it just for the ratios.

I do have a Disco2 tbox with difflock which is going to donate its difflock to my Disco2, so if a box with no front-wheel drive housing etc is any use, let me know.

Early boxes (99-01) and very late boxes (04) all had the diff lock internals and external drive peg, 2002/3 boxes didn't unless diff lock was specified as a factory option.

So I know that there are

I was hoping to be able to do a straight swap and not "break open" either box to swap parts, but do let me know how much you'd be after for your half-a-box! Wink  1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top

There is one (with difflock) on the bay at the moment:

Also this one, but I can't tell if it has the difflock or not:

Just out of curiosity, why a D2 tbox? What advantages does it offer? And what ratio is it?

D2 box was modified for quieter operation hence LT230Q, earlier boxes were not hence LT230.

Having said that, I am not sure exactly what the differences were and I would have thought that for example a 300TDi tbox would fit a 90. I don't know if the gearbox to tbox interface changed at all. One difference between Disco1 and Disco2 was the removal of the gear levers from the top of the box to floor mounting, hence all controls were cable not rod operated.

The other major difference of course was the regrettable omission of the CDL on many D2 boxes!

obviously not that "widely" Martin....

so why not just fit a 1.2 tbox from a disco 1?

as said above, the control levers need some thought, probably best done with 2 seperate levers for low/hi and difflock....

I am with Ibexman. When I was having issues with my D1 V8, I went through 2 'good' second hand ones (in 8 months) at £100 each and over £100 of oil (I did all the work so free) and then finally stumped up the £350 for a fully reconditioned one and it is still all happy 2 years later.

Buy cheap.... buy twice (or 3 times in my case), lol.

Good luck,

I need the Td5 spec hi/lo sensor for my Td5 engine - not fitted to D1 boxes.

Linkages would be taken from my existing box.

I'm not here to start a row about which box to use, just seeing if anyone has a D2 transfer box Shocked  1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top

What effect does the Hi/Lo sensor have on the ecu and therefore the engine? I'm guessing that it cuts throttle response slightly (can;t say i've ever noticed though!!)?

With low range selected on the new LT230Q transfer box, the ECU enables Fast Throttle Control (FTC) which widens pedal travel, giving more control over the engine speed in off road and low speed operation.
