You can fit two normal sized 019 batteries in the standard box. A 019 is the standard size fitted to a Defender.

I've leveled the bottom off using some bits of 1/2" ply in the stepped lower bit and used some M8 threaded rod atached (somehow, I can't remember how) to a stock battery mount to clamp them down.
