Puma 110 won't start.
Hi lads, I'm in a bit of a pickle here- especially with the winters conditions we are having at the moment, my 110 won't start.
When I turn the key nothing happens, the starter relay clicks, the starter itself clicks once but that's all it does. it has no immobiliser, the starter was replaced a few months back along with a new battery which is still putting out max power and clamps are good and tight.. In the past few weeks I've replaced the vacuum pump and gasket as it was leaking and done the injector washers and seals and crack cases seals while I was at it.
It won't start on a jump start but will on a tow start.
Any ideas?
Cheers

Starter solenoid, or starter relay under the o/s/f seat perhaps.

Give your starter motor a good few whacks with the back of a ratchet or something metalic and do it a few times . If its a stuck solenoid it may free it temporarily

Check the earth leads are rust free and tight on the gearbox and chassis.

Clouting the starter while someone cranks the ignition might get it going, in which case it's the starter/solenoid that's kaput.

Have you load tested the battery or just checked the voltage?

I gave it a few slaps with a heavy bar but no joy.

When you put the key in and turn to position 2 do you wait to hear the relay click? It can be quite a wait. In the past I’ve done it more than once and then fired up no problem. If I didn’t wait the vehicle wouldn’t start for love / money / threats of violence Very Happy

Got a fellow defender driver mate to give me a tow start and drove it up to the yard and put it in the garage and will change it when the weather clears up. We are currently experiencing the worst snow blizzards since 1982 and the whole country is on shutdown.
Trust a Land Rover to let you down at this time. I love them but I'm currently in a dilemma between a reliable mode of transport, or keeping my defender.
Thanks for all the help

Well I tackled the job yesterday with the help of a fellow defender driver. It ended up being a broken connection on the ignition wire, the loop around the bolt had broken and shorted itself out. After a bit of fiddling and a lot of extensions and knuckle joints we got it redone.
Starting first turn now, delighted but I think I got away lightly!
Thanks for all the help
Cheers
