Jack and associated gubbins.
I've found out my new purchase came without the jack and associated bits n bobs in case of a flat at the roadside scenario etc.

What does one recommend i look for as a suitable replacement? i'm not looking for a highlift for this kind of scenario ( i may purchase one later on for off road ) just a decent jack set up.

is it worht looking for an original one or aer they not very good?

Cheers

I use the original bottle jack, have used them for years, should be able to find them easily on ebay, disco 1/2 has the same bottle jack. 90 wolf - Jasmin http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic39408.html

Hi Lift and genuine bottle jack.

Contact Thornton Breakers regarding one, they are pretty good of genuine jacks. ___\⭐️Lone|Star|State/___

Be careful if you order an “original” jack since original on some models is a hydraulic bottle jack but on others it is the mechanical spiral wind-up variety.

Trolley jack if you are concerned about ease of changing roadside punctures (the wife has a nice Sealey 2 tonne one in a plastic carry case) or a high-lift if you want to change anything off road as everything else is usually a waste of time on any sort of soft ground.

Personally I buy good quality tyres (usually BFG) and have not had a roadside flat on any of my vehicles in about 20 years with the sole exception of a cheap tyre on my old pickup that I ripped open on a jagged bit of metal sticking out of an unmade road. Picked up a few nails here and there but decent tyres usually hold them in and just have a very slow leak which you can repair when convenient.

If you want a bottle jack the main thing is to enjoy getting dirty under the vehicle and make sure you get a 2-stage one as almost all off the shelf bottle jacks are completely useless for a Defender. The Discovery Tdi jacks are not a bad option.

Do not under any circumstances opt for the spiral wind-up jack. It takes about three weeks to change a wheel and guaranteed you will throw it in the ditch afterwards! ---

a cheap tarpaulin stuffed in with the jack is good to lay on. Or better still an old vinyl advertising banner.

A sprinter jack or one of the original Land Rover hydraulic ones is definitely the way to go. Both have a good saddle on them designed for axles.

The spiral wind-up Defender jack is a magnificent tool with many uses, and every Defender owner should have one. Until you have actually used one, you simply cannot begin even to imagine how good it is. As long as you don't want to jack up your Defender, its uses are limited only by your imagination.

I have one which is complete, surplus to requirements, and which has seen very little use, which I would gladly pass on to any forum member for a very modest sum! Rolling with laughter

If it has the soft A Bar extension piece, I’ll happily have it off you Blackwolf . Seriously Thumbs Up

I dunno about the "soft A bar extension piece", what does one look like? Sadly I suspect that it doesn't, even though it was with my Defender when I bought it and the Defender did also have a soft A bar (now long since sold).

UPDATE - I've just seen your post from 4 years ago here, I presume that this the doohicky you're still looking for. In which case I will see if my jack has one.

Thank you Blackwolf. The additional extension is the shaded component. If you have it, rather than split your jack, I’d take the whole thing Thumbs Up

You certainly don't need a high lift jack to change a tyre, so don't even contemplate the expenditure.
I'd only consider buying one now if I regularly drove in remote areas as Stephen does.

A Hi Lift is nice to have, but not a requirement and the bottle jack is generally safer.

The Hi Lift is just useful to have depending on situation. ___\⭐️Lone|Star|State/___

I beg to differ Steve, jacking the back or front of a defender on a Hi lift jack until the axle is hanging on the shock absorber with spring dislocated is NEVER safer than using a bottle jack. The usefulness of a Hi Lift jack to the everyday 90 or 110 owner is a myth and is far more dangerous than safe in untrained hands.
Just saying 😊
