United Kingdom 2004 Defender 110 Td5 HT Masai Red
First "issue"
Took the Defender out this morning.
Sat at the traffic lights and switched the radio on. There was instantly a noise like a relay chattering which disappears when I turn the radio off. Tried it a few times but the same thing happens. Standard LR radio (photo below).

Is the radio controlled by a relay or is it likely to be the unit itself? Not had time to look.

Some people wire ignition feeds from the radio so it's likely that it could be a relay that another owner added that is being powered from the radio. Possible Sub that has been removed?

Had that same head unit in my old D2 & it used to 'chatter' when it was cold & I tried to play a CD. Radio worked fine & once things had warmed up inside the CD player would work fine too. Would imagine that in a Defender the symptoms would be more frequent!

No Electric Ariel Grafty.

It happens when I switch it on without a CD in it.

I'll maybe get a chance to make some radio removal pins tomorrow and have a look.

Time is short!! Crying or Very sad

No you are not alone!

Going to try and sort that at the same time just for the moment but may get one of the MUD fascia plates soon.

If it doesn't make the noise with a CD in, but it does make a noise without a CD, then surely it must be the internals of the CD player that are at fault...?

...and a couple of thin screw drivers in the holes will probably get the radio out of the facia without to much trouble.
