On the rack is best. Mine has been through 3 or 4 MOT's without any problems, and many policemen have seen it.

Like I said before, there is nothing illegal about fitting it to the front of the roofrack, so plod, VOSA and the MOT people won't have issues with this.

If you fit it somewhere where you have to remove it to use the winch, then if you use the winch on a public highway (including green lanes of course, or a place to which the public has access and where as a result the provisions of the RTA apply) you will be breaking the law.

Also realistically the harder it is to steal the better. Stolen plates are big business now that road policing and a lot of charging is done by camera not by humans. It is harder to steal if bolted to your roof rack than clipped to your bumper.

Small plates or plates with improper fonts and/or spacing (especially on the rear of the vehicle) are highly likely to get you pulled now, since cameras may have trouble with them.

It's a lot better there than where it was last night, I've seen it already and you haven't even got it back yet Very Happy

Like the tyres too, changes the look completely, just what you need to get to the shops and back Laughing Mark S

I put mine in front of the fairlead - added advantage of stopping crap going in there.

Normally held by the half twist button clips,,, !! now double side tape

Mike, as above, do you know were they clips are available from ?? mine got mislaid, between winch swaps !!!

Only quick pic i have,, just make out the tin plate,

Putting on Roof rack just now but would like to have the option of mounting in front of winch and being able to remove quickly when using the winch -

Where can the clips referred to above be purchased ?

I have both types the Fair lead one - that required these http://www.tastynuts.com/Products/titanium...individual which i think the one you want (incidentlay these are just the TYPE of fixing) not where you should get them from Thumbs Up

And the type that goes on top of the bumper (sort of L) shape Mike

Tyres were only fitted yesterday, so now he's got it back from the tyre fitter ask him again about tyre noise Very Happy (always supposing he did bring it back, I must say it looked good he might have just kept it!) Mark S
