Like I said before, there is nothing illegal about fitting it to the front of the roofrack, so plod, VOSA and the MOT people won't have issues with this.
If you fit it somewhere where you have to remove it to use the winch, then if you use the winch on a public highway (including green lanes of course, or a place to which the public has access and where as a result the provisions of the RTA apply) you will be breaking the law. Also realistically the harder it is to steal the better. Stolen plates are big business now that road policing and a lot of charging is done by camera not by humans. It is harder to steal if bolted to your roof rack than clipped to your bumper. Small plates or plates with improper fonts and/or spacing (especially on the rear of the vehicle) are highly likely to get you pulled now, since cameras may have trouble with them. |

Tyres were only fitted yesterday, so now he's got it back from the tyre fitter ask him again about tyre noise
