United Kingdom 2001 Defender 90 Td5 SW Alveston Red
windscreen frame change
Morning,
Due to lots of corrosion im looking to replace my windscreen in a 2001 TD5 90 with a heated screen

Plan is to find a good one and paint it first,
And use new windscreen seals etc,

What kinda of a job is it ?

And are all windscreen frames the same of recent times please ?
I am looking for a good one this sunday at the sort out

Thanks in advance

Richard

If you find a good one be sure to check that the gutter that runs under the windscreen is intact. It is made up from 3 sections (one long one and 2 end pieces) and the welds/joints on mine are leaking badly. When I say badly there is literally a stream of water running into the footwell Big Cry

This was only discovered after a complete roof off / frame off re-seal when the roll cage was fitted. Now it is nightmare job as the screen frame can't be removed without lifting the roof by an inch or so, the internal roll cage doesn't allow access to the roof bolts and in lifting it by any amount the (brand new & non-leaking) seals will need to be re-seated. Probably a 2-3 day job. And then it'll probably leak somewhere else Rolling with laughter

Bear in mind this is a 10 year old 110 so it could happen to any of the newer bulkheads you see. Check and save yourself some grief.
