Stripping the bulkhead and removing it is a massive job, its the heart of the vehicle. Having said that , if you have some corrosion you have more !
Its worth doing if you are keeping the vehicle, but if you go tht far I would reccomend galvanising it . This also increases the value of the Landie. All the parts are available to weld in from YRM. as for time ... two of us stripped my landie from this : ![]() Click image to enlarge to this ![]() Click image to enlarge in six hours, but it then took me a couple of hours to get the engine out..... and 4 hours o strip the bulkhead .... bearing in mind that it was totally accessable and most things had been removed ( wings, doors roof etc) 1984 300TDi hardtop Stornoway Grey 1984 200TDi hardtop..... soon to be a V8 .. but which V8 ? 1974 DAF T244 4x4 wagon converted to a motorhome 1976 Jaguar XJC with supercharged engine |

Agree ……^^^
Taking a Landy apart is surprising quick, easy and therapeutic! The time to put it all back together is massive and costly as you end up replacing so much. However if your Landy is a keeper then galvanise the bulkhead and go for it...only your bank account will regret it ![]() ![]() 1984 110 V8 - Gone, but not forgotten.... |

I have stripped and replaced a bulkhead on my own (help from a mate for lifting) in about a week and a half. This includes painting the new one, covering it in stone chip and filling it with wax.
![]() Click image to enlarge ![]() Click image to enlarge ![]() Click image to enlarge I was going slow time and doing other little bits at the same time, I would say it might take an extra few days on top of that for the shotblast and welding depending how bad it is. 90 wolf - Jasmin http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic39408.html 90 V8 - Maggie http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic42564.html 110 TD5 - Buggsy http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic59029.html 52HG25 lightweight https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic72342.html D3 Hse - Fiona Capri 2l S - Anna Think I might have a problem............ |

I knew a guy local to me (Paul) from Pegusus Parts who was just starting to make up bulkheads specifically for each Series model... Quite a task, done properly from CAD drawings to be exact as possible. I don,t know if he makes Defender one also now.
EDIT, no Defender bulkheads I don,t think but a useful link to some, although he is probBly well known now, i M going back some years when I did mine. http://www.pegasusparts.co.uk/ourshop_9007...heads.html |
