Derek - don't know if I am helpful here. Had an air horn installed - in the kit there was a switch - so that you could switch between normal horn and air horn. Auto electronics not my strong point - so I had a technician and fellow Defender club member install it.

I think that they are standard 2-pin Econoseal connectors.

Thanks for your replies everyone!!
Here's a photo of the connector. Sorry it's not the greatest but it's pretty awkward to get at!! I've just noticed that there seems to be a number on the back - 985324-1 - and Googling it brings up an Italian eBay listing for a similar looking connector, so that may be it, but if so I'm not sure I'm going to be able to get hold of one in the UK. Assuming I'm not able to get one, does anyone know what size wire (mm2) is used for the horn, as I'll probably have to use a Posi-Tap connector but they're pretty specific with their sizing! Thanks. Derek. |

That's an AMP connector used inter alia on BMWs. Definitely not the Econoseal I thought it was sorry! Also (I think) used on Disco 2 horns.
Edit: update - just for the record, Disco2 horns and Defender horns have totally different connectors and are not directly interchangeable. Last edited by blackwolf on 25th Feb 2017 3:10pm. Edited 1 time in total |

Ah right, thanks blackwolf. Do you know where I could try to get one of those (and the male half) in the UK (Google turns up nothing), and also do you know if an econoseal crimper would work to crimp the terminals?
Also, do you know what wire size is used on the horn? Thanks. Derek. |

Offhand I'm afraid not, but I have a spare wing harness somewhere. If I can find it I might be able to figure out the wire size. It is unlikely that the crimps will be too specialised and I imagine an Econoseal type tool will do the job.

According to the electrical reference manual C003 and C004 are MQS series, LR part number YPC110600, wire is size 0.75 and terminals are LR part number YPL101510 if that is any use?
(doesn't directly help with the mating connector, but it might be a start) |

Thanks blackwolf and apt100! That's really useful info. Just need to find a mating connector now and I'll be sorted! If I can't find one I'll just use the posi tap now I know what the wire size is.
Thanks again for your help everyone! Derek. |

Just a correction - the number written on the connector was actually 965324-1, not 985324-1!! I think I'll try writing to a shop that sells these connectors to see if they can suggest a mating one.

Any Durite supplier should be able to get them, or Paul at LRconnectors is an absolute gent and a legend for this stuff.
