I thought that is how the oil service light came on on a puma. When the oil had a certain amount of diesel in it it needs changing. I think I read it somewhere and didn't dream it

Thanks! No oil service light yet - albeit I am not sure I have such an indicator, it's a 07 2.4 TDCi -

That's indeed so for the 2.2 TDCi, but not for the 2.4. The 2.2 gets diesel contamination due to the DPF recycling, the 2.4 does not have that.... feature. ![]() Eric You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation. http://youtu.be/yVRlSsJwD0o https://youtu.be/vmPr3oTHndg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_GtzTT9Pdl0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ABqKPz28e6A https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rLZ49Jce_n0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XvAsz_ilQYU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K8tMHiX9lSw https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=dxwjPuHIV7I https://vimeo.com/201482507 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZSixqL0iyHw |

To be honest if it is a faint smell I wouldn't worry about it, but I would keep a close eye on the oil level. If it goes up, then investigation is called for.

I find it quite funny that such an oil service light exists
![]() But it fits with the rest of the Defender. Injector seals might be it. Aren't they the same as the copper gaskets sealing the injector towards the fuel lines? I am having injector trouble anyway (cyl. 1+3 are knocking and are slightly out of tolerance), so everything will have to come out for four new injectors on Jan. 5th anyway... Have a good New Years Eve everyone! |

I think not. My service light simply corresponds with time and mileage. I click the service light away and leave oil as is. Light won't come up again before time or mileage are 'service-critical' once more. Hence quality is not the issue (in my case at least) ![]() |
