If you got a 110 with mudflaps, they will fall off -do this!
Not if...

when..

Very cheap simple fix that is better done before they break through the rear panel alloy and you lose them on the M56

Small bit of angle alloy (not steel)

Drill hole

Place above mudflap bracket fixing to spread the load and beef up the fixing point

Job done! Thumbs Up

How it sits inside the panel

This is what 6mm hole looks like

Bolt it all up

Prevent this Big Cry (yep that the bit of the panel the mudflap was hanging off)

I've done the same repair using a parts supplied by 4x4 Overlander (http://www.4x4overlander.com/product/110-mudflap-reinforcing-bracket-rear/).

Nice tidy repair.

There are long existing cleaner tailor made solutions you can do before it becomes a problem. Those with a 110, better install these from new, otherwise you are guaranteed to get this damage to your truck.
This simple solution was initially designed by Entreq, but now available from various suppliers.

£33 for a bit of aluminium and some bolts!

Just get a cheap section of alu angle as described above that will do the same job. £8 for an 8' length of 1/2" x 1/2" angle at Wickes - that'd do a few 110s!

Just to add, if you isolate the bolt and mud flap bracket from the body with nylon washers you don't get and metal corrosion between the steel and ally. Ray

Another, better option (though a bit more expensive) is the Gwyn Lewis kit.

^^^^^^ Agreed^^^^^^

Tucks the mudflap up a little tighter too, plus it has a quick release mechanism should you need to get them off for some extreme mudding. It has a stiffener/strengthener bar that is bolted to the lower flange of the wing to spread the load better.

Another vote for aluminium. I used a length of green house 90° angle aluminium on the old 110, held in place with pop rivets, ran it along the whole length of the fold at the bottom of the wing. Seemed pretty robust afterwards. Used a bit of margarine tub to isolate from the mudflap bracket steel.

The Gywn Lewis kit should protect the fuel pipes on the 110 too. I should know, except that my kit is still on the bench awaiting fitment Embarassed Current Steeds:

Australia 2013 Defender 110 Puma 2.2 SW Chawton White
I have carried out a similar modification on my 110. I realised with my first 2007 110 that the heavy mudflap would flex on he body mount and eventually crack the metal. I modified that 110 and have done the same on my 2013 Defender.

I placed aluminium strip on the inside lip of the panel and also ran an aluminium flat strip secured with outdoor rated double sided tape on the lower side of the lip for the whole length. Not only does it stop the flexing, I didn't have to drill any additional holes in the panel, only cost a few dollars, and will protect the exposed edge of the panel from stone damage.

Using double sided tape might not be suitable where salt on roads might get trapped, but luckily I don't have to worry about that living in Australia.
