Headlamp bulb upgrade suggestions please
Hi, my 2001 TD5 has candles for bulbs. Although I would like to go down LED route I feel I have to spend my cash on more urgent Landy parts.

Are there any recommendations simply for a bulb upgrade?

Thanks in advance Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Mike

I recently did the tried and tested relay loom/crystal lamps/Nightbreaker bulb combo. Night and day difference over the standard lights. You can do the whole lot for easily less than 100. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

Philips Extreme Vison bulbs, in combination with Crystal Clear Headlamp and relay loom - a huge difference compared to standard setup... Thumbs Up Cheers, Vincent

Grey area, but Who cares??

No different to numerous other motors with led headlights, passes the mot without any issues, and not even road policing officers are aware of them being legit or not [I've checked] Guns and Landrovers .... anything else is irrelevant.

I went for the Philips and they have made a big difference. I didn't change the lamp unit just the bulbs, I'll wait and see what Santa brings! Mike

If have not already I highly recommend you add a wiring loom with relays to the light switch. Brand name like Boomslang is expensive but this will mae your lights brighter and allow the switch to last much, much longer. As for bulbs I have no prefence, what ever is on sale, usually Osram... 2010 Range Rover MkIII Autobiography Super Charged (Idris)

I had assumed they were on a relay, so they are not? I was also going to check the voltage at the bulb. I'm guessing there is a bit of a drop. So a relay loom would overcome this I'm thinking?

Thanks for the advice, I'm on it!!! Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Mike

The switch is not. Full voltage goes through it and burns it out (literally). The additional loom corrects this and adds a low and high beam relay with ceramic plugs to the lights allowing higher wattage (if you like) and takes the voltage away from the switch. It is basically plug and play. This is the one I installed over a year ago. These are cheap but I put a few in a few different Defenders and these work great.

Just as a belated update I fitted an ungraded loom last year and am now getting about 14v at the "bulb" end when on and loaded. In the last couple of weeks I have fitted Wipac Crystal headlamps and Ring Xeon 150+ bulbs and what a difference it makes! I can now see I have the headlights on as before you really couldn't tell.

I'm sure good LED headlamps will be the way to go once funds permit. Mike
