Original Tyre Change Kit or What Should I Have Realistically
Had Lusty since Apr 15 and as per normal she came with no tools for changing a wheel over
Putting tyre change into search gives me 500 posts on what wheels to have

Two options

Original - what should I have complete with part numbers to keep her original, jack, brace etc

Reality - as much LR stuff is pants, what works in the real world

Answers on a postcard please

Many thanks

As above with a decent piece of wood to put jack on just in case you are on soft ground and a wheel chock

Had my halfords breaker bar for 10 years with no problems. Also doubles up as a jack handle if needed for the bottle jack

+3,To repeat you do want a quality 6 sided socket.Cheapo ones crack.Halfords and Machine mart are worth looking at.

wheel chock

Why a wheel chock, having never used one on any car why are Def's different?

How many do you need, when would you use it, might be a daft question so apologies

I would recommend a breakdown membership like Green Flag, AA, RAC etc. Trying to change an offside wheel on the side of a busy road is life limiting (especially if you live in Norfolk with the driving round here). Joking apart, it's not a fun place to be and the breakdown people will have a big van with flashing lights to put in between you and the flat tyre.

When you apply the handbrake inna Defender ONLY one wheel (out of 4) is "braked".So a physical wheel chock is very good..Watch any number of hgv's sliding backwards down a hill IN THE SNOW coz they only applied the handbrake. They suddenly stop completely coz the footbrake is applied (ALL WHEELS). Pov.spec,ftw. 2006, 110,TD5.

Proper 1/2" breaker bar, 600mm is fine.

27mm socket (I use an impact socket because I tend to gun them off)

28mm socket (Alloy wheel nuts, the stainless caps corrode and swell. Check you can get a 27mm over them before you need it! Half of mine I have to use an 1-1/8" Socket I had lying around that fitted.

Bottle jack, designed for lifting on axles, not just a flat topped one.

Wheel chock is good, if not 100% necessary. Always put in diff lock too when jacking.

Sealey tools are pretty good. Picked up a bar for £13 and socket set for £30. Individual sockets probably around £5. I've not killed the sealey stuff yet and I use my tools a lot.
