I think I'll stick with CB in the cubby box. I have a safari equip one which is much like the MSS ones with the radio compartment in the front of it.

What I like about the outback console is that! If you don't know, it looks like it came with the Defender ... although it's not cheap, and BigMike is right, it's essentialy a CB holder and you can store a few papers and a pair of sunglasses!
But a friend has one and besides the CB he has about 6 switches on it, for lights and some more stuff. Very nice job! But as for cutting the sun visors I'll take them to an upholsterer to do the job right Regards Joao '10 Land Rover Defender 110 CC '08 BMW F800GS '64 SIIA Forward Control '69 SIIA 109 ZA CKD _____________________________________________ You have the right to remain silent. With the sun vissors I think it could be a case of not cutting them back too much, taking some extra out of the middle to allow you (the wife) to stitch the end back together. Russell

Personally I've gone for a portable CB with a kit to plug into a roof aerial. I like the idea of being able to use away from the vehicle and of being able to completely de-mount from the truck. In terms of range the people I want to talk to are only probably half a mile ahead anyway so fancy high gain antenna is not what I need.
In terms of mounting the antenna the key thing is the 'ground-plane' and how this helps project (antenna beam pattern) the power away from your truck. The downside of a portable is that you have to live with the thing and its cables moving around in the truck. |
