Don't put the cap back on while you are bleeding it through

not to suck eggs but after each lock to lock you are centralising and then undoing the bleed screw on top of the box i take it? Cheers

ummm....no, read through all these forums...all say self bleeding? however that is where I am going to go next...after I have replaced the union on the pump housing as that is source of leak.

JST ! I am the chump here...I have pretty much zero hrs on these things....I read through the forums everyone says it bleeds itself however this clearly is not the case.
I took the pump off (ballache as have just replaced the rad and intercooler) looks recent and not 90K miles found source of leak ...split o ring on the high pressure side...all the o rings look a bit tired so toms task is to get a replacement set put it together and following your advice bleed it from the steering box. I am mega grateful for any replies to my posts, and if I appeared otherwise I can only apologise. K |

Don't get too carried away tightening the union back into the pump body, mine had a weep there and I thought that I'd just give it a tweak and snapped the damned thing, that little tweak cost me a new pump as nobody would sell me the union seperately. It seems to be that the union is the piece that determines what vehicle the pump fits, the pumps themselves look very much alike especially when you see 20+ of the things sat on a floor at a motor factors and not one would fit!

Hmmm well after an amusing trip to find the relevant O rings..refitting them starting it up...fingers crossed...and then there it is the steady drip of weeping fluid...nothing more depressing..it seems to be the actual pump body...looks like it has a gasket ... the pipes and unions are dry...so I guess this means a new pump if they dont make service kits?

Haha! yes I think you are right...I am just looking at buying one now... ! ..all that time wasted thinking it cant be the pump...hey ho..might change the pipes as well ...now I know its relatively straightforward. This time will deff be bleeding from the steering box..even if it did remove the skin off my knuckles putting a spanner on the bleed nipple.
Any preferred suppliers ? Thanks for all advice K |
