It's this time of the year again. The Geneva Motor Show is only a few weeks away, 3-13 March. Think this is going to be the offical poster.
Will be a different feeling when visiting the Land Rover section. Last year we still had this beauty on center stage here, at least until halfway the show..... Click image to enlarge Halfway the show, exit Adventure they said. Clearly more occupied with promoting their ongoing models, understandably from a number cruncher point of view but not to our liking. Click image to enlarge Guess also the prime Defender tuners like Startech who usually had a nice customized Defender on display in Geneva, like for instance this one here in 2013, are going to have to refocus. Click image to enlarge Or the good old days like 2008 when the SVX soft top and the SVX 110SW both were on the Geneva JLR center stage, and where I went to see my dealer sales rep and paid the down payment on my SVX 110 order which I had finalized at the dealership with him the day before, down payment 10% in cash, would not be possible now anymore. Click image to enlarge JLR display is going to feel different this year I think, wonder if there still will be any reference to the old lady in movies or pictures on the stand. Anybody planning to come and visit the show? My free tickets courtesy of my dealer should drop in the mail box next week. Eric You never actually own a Defender. Two webcams to follow the preparations live. In the introductory movie JLR figure amongst the unmentioned.

One hour from Geneva, but in France, I highly recommend the campsite at the top of my valley (or as Babs Windsor might say, you can come and camp in my valley.... ). Saint Gervais is the main town, foot of Mont Blanc, lots to do, excellent pool, etc etc. But the Campsite at the top of the Valley in Les Contamines is a gem, with a play area right alongside. However, April in the Alps is still the tail end of the winter season, so a lot of summer activities might not have started. Worth baring in mind as it'll mean being DIY. But here's the link anyway. We have had friends with kids visiting in summer and they cannot get enough of the place. Campsite is right alongside. http://www.lescontamines.com/parc-de-loisirs-lac-du-pontet.html If it's not up and running, there's another campsite in Saint Gervais, owner has a 110SW, which is also perfectly located. From there you're a short hop to Italy, to various farms and petting zoos, to lifts to get up to the snow for lunch, the lake and BBQ areas in Passy etc etc. Much to do. I think Shaggydog stayed at this site. http://www.camping-mont-blanc.com/en/ Voila. As I said, France not Switzerland....but being under Mont Blanc, it's the proper Alps. (Sorry Eric, ) Monsieur Le Grenadier I've not been everywhere, but it's on my list..... 2011 Puma 110DC - Corris Grey |

All ready to roll... Four complimentary tickets, two of which have attached a free public transport day pass for someone on here who does not have a annual public transport pass.

Easy for me to walk walk into a TPG ticket office with the Autobritt tickets, and if wanted they'll happily staple a free day pass onto them.

Our written press says this years edition is all about super cars and 4x4s. JLR are mentioned with the Eewok convertible (pic 9/52), Kahn with the 6 wheel Defender Flying Huntsman which gets referred to as an outright monstrocity (pic 35/52).
Will be odd to see only a Defender at Kahn this year. Eric http://www.lematin.ch/auto-moto/Une-cuve--...y/22361180 You never actually own a Defender. "Land Rover decided to do without the girls this year, opting instead for a Swiss satirist with a colourful Mohican hairdo to promote the brand at their stand."

Normal I'd say, seems this model was personally selected by Gerry McGovern for promoting the new Eeewok Convertible. You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation.

When you look, you will find.... This gent apparently was already hired by JLR for the 2015 show also, so this is year two now.
This perseverence makes me even more wondering about the styling direction they are going. Click image to enlarge You never actually own a Defender. Visited the show again this year, whisked around Geneva in a 60th SVX in style
Overall interesting show but this was the first time the Land Rover stand was bland ... Can you guess why? Last edited by bpman on 13th Mar 2016 8:33pm. Edited 1 time in total |

Ye Gods. Once upon a time I would have said a brace of Labradors or Springer spaniels or maybe a few foxhounds or ratty terriers as well as human models would have been fitting for Land Rover products but these days it would be more fitting to have Cockerpoo's, Labradoodles, Puggles or some other concocted designer silliness. Steve. Owned numerous Land Rover vehicles of all shapes and sizes over the decades. Current Defender: A non tarts hand-bagged Puma 110 XS USW. [Insert something impressive here such as extensive list of previous Land Rovers or examples of your prestigeous and expensive items, trinkets, houses, bikes, vehicles etc] http://forums.lr4x4.com I used to be Miserable ...but now I'm ecstatic. |
