Replacement Rear Door TD5 to Puma?
Hi all,

My rear door on my 2001 TD5 110 SW is shot to bits, the lock has come away from the door!

So I need to fit a replacement door.

I was thinking about buying a new Puma door from SP on Ebay.

Apart from the interior trim and the window is there any other puma specific parts I would need to buy?

Is it worth the hassle? I'm mainly thinking that the new doors are stronger and appear to be better designed (for rust prevention).

Any advice gratefully received.

Cheers

I'm pretty sure the puma rear door is the same as the later TD5. It has a heavier steel chassis. I replace mine (due to damage, 2005 TD5) and they were identical.Brought a S/h one from Billing a couple of years ago, in tonga green, worked out slightly cheaper than new and paint, although its not an exact colour match.

Presuming your Td5 has the "square window bottom" bottom door as it's 2001.

The lock and the motor can be moved over. The check strap might be different also

Here's a complete breakdown of the parts: http://www.landroverexpedition.com/technic...rear-door/

Thanks Folks,

Think I should go for it and buy the new style door. Might be a good oppurtunity to slowly move all the windows over to tinted ones as well starting with the rear window Wink

Hi all,

I purchased a new gen LR door 2nd generation version.

I'm now arranging to get it painted.

I know the majority of the it's on the door can be transferred to the new door, but I'm thinking of getting a new set of door hinges so they are colour coded correctly, the cost will be negligible compared to the door being painted.

Any hinges I should be avoiding or seeking out??

I have identified a few sets on EBay, but other than the price no obvious variations.

Any tips in general, I am planning on getting the door painted, then I will build it up later one weekend.

Cheers
Andy

I just installed a 2014 Puma door on my 2000 Td5.

Stick with Genuine hinges, they fit spot on. I tried installing a door with OEM hinges on a friends truck and the middle hinge was off by 1/2". There is very little (if any) adjustment in the rear door, so hinge fit is crucial.

You will need to go with a new lock (long style cylinder) to fit in the new door. If you want to use the same style plug to wire the wiper and other electrics, look here http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/DEFENDER-TD5-PUM...AQ:GB:1123

Hi, thanks for the info.

What about keys?

If I get a long barrel style lock, will I be able to use my ignition key to lock the door, or at least the same key that's used to lock the other doors?

If so, can I buy the barrels off eBay?

Sorry for all the questions folks, just trying to be clear Smile

You could get a new complete set of cylinders (including ignition) so the rear door and ignition are the same key, and you will still need your short key for the front doors. If you upgrade your front doors in the future to the Puma style, you have matching cylinders.

Thanks, sounds like a good idea.

Given that I need to replace my main doors also, does the puma key fit the front doors as well?

Also where can you buy the barrels and keys, also in the packs with the keys does it come with instructions on how to set the barrels?

Cheers

Here is all you need. LR052050

This set comes with an ignition lock, and 3 long barrels, (for the front doors, and rear door) all set to the 2 keys included in the box. "Plug and play"

Hi all,

Well, my rear door is painted and ready to fit.

My old door is barely holding together - might last a week if I'm lucky!!!!

I have or about to order the new window and rubber seal from island 4x4.

However i'm panicking a bit as although i have sussed out the window and seal, i have hit a real dilemma with the door lock!!

I found this site (http://www.landroverexpedition.com/technical/assembling-the-td5-rear-door/) which basically lists all the parts i need, I'm planning on re-using a lot of the 1st gen door kit (wiper motor etc).

But i can't seem to properly identify the door handle assembly for the new door (or find it anywhere), I'm confused with all the varieties available!!!

To be specific, i am intending to buy a new door handle, instead of trying to swap the old one across, but i believe the new lock you need is one with a longer barrel to accommodate the new style lock (ignition key).

I'm not fussed just now about having a new style key, i'd be happy to reuse the barrel and key that i have already from the original handle, but i just don't know if there is a problem in reusing the old handle (i.e. if the barrel sits too far away from the door skin i might not be able to fit the key).

Can anyone lend me some help?

Cheers
Andy

Hi all,

Struggling to fit the new rear window to my door.

Is there any tips to do this?

I put some vasaline on the lips of the seal, i am using the paracord method, but don't seem to have enough hands!!!

I'm guessing this is a two man job, one to keep pressure on the window and one to pull the string!?

Any tips appreciated Smile

Cheers

Ok, job done.

Quite tricky to get the right technique, but once you have it sussed its quite straight forward.

You do in my opinion need two people, or at least 1 adult and 1 10 year old son Smile

I pulled the string teasing the rubber through the gap, with my son applying pressure to the window as directed.

I did start to wonder the wisdom in buying a Britpart window seal (late last night), but it fits, it's neat, it is nice and supple and I didn't break the window (always a bonus).

The window seal is an OEM Britpart seal, CVW500010, with the window being CQB000270 (heated with high brake light) all from Island 4x4.

Big high fives to my son as we both saw it as a PITA Wink

Now to fit the door Wink

Cheers
Andy
