No the time to really worry is when you continue to be a flatulator, grumpy and miserable but then start talking to dead people…. ![]() http://www.youtube.com/user/conwy1 |

My dogs take take ages to get over fireworks. When I was a lad you let off fireworks on Nov 5th, now it lasts for two weeks and more. Then it starts again for New Year. For those who like Welsh Mountains and narrow boats have a look at my videos and photos at.. http://www.youtube.com/user/conwy1 |

I'm sure that in my youth fireworks had more emphasis on looking pretty and less on making exceptionally loud bangs. Now noise seems to feature more than anything else.
I do rather wonder why it is in these troubled times we still allow Joe Public to buy and set off explosives so readily. It wasn't so bad when it was just Nov 5th but now fireworks seems to be let off for virtually any excuse, and at any time of night. I personally would nowadays favour banning private sales and only allowing organised displays, with such displays being subject to some form of licencing or planning consent. Then we could get back to one night per year plus the odd special occasion (eg Queen's Jubilee), and not have the "any excuse" mentality. |

I dont see why we should ban them...extend that...this desire to ban things is really bad - its the worse trait of people in the UK and society, what people dont realise is banning one thing only quickly leads to banning something else.
Lets ban greenlaning, lets ban 4x4s, lets ban engines, lets ban noise etc etc - just because we dont like something shouldnt mean we ban it, just respect peoples rights to enjoy something differently...personally i would ban BMW from the world - who would agree. Rules introduced that seem ok for one thing, only lead to a change in use and a reduction in our liberties. We dont live in troubled times and fireworks certainly arent part of a problem. So how banning them would help, who knows Like i say, look forward to go out into the fields/parks etc with the dogs to watch fireworks. Mike |

^^ Here here!
Bit off topic as its a video and from a disturbed mind but give it a watch through to the end. If we just keep banning things because of a very small minority of people we will end up with a very dismal world. Made me think about things a bit differently. But I do agree, yes having a celebration is fine and fireworks are fun, but not every day of the week and not all year round! I hear guns frequently - isnt it the same? what about blue lights and sirens, they annoy me...the low flying jets are a pain...oh and then those planes at the airport, they disrupt my thinking.
Society is only loosing responsibility (possibly) because a few take away the rights of many...no-one has the right to decide that Mike |

MSE, I agree with everything you say and I would never condone banning fireworks, even though my cat doesn't like it. But I understand the sentiments of others, because what has been lost in modern life is people's ability for self control and/or respecting others and thinking about how what you are doing may effect others. More and more it seems people simply don't give a f*** about their fellow citizens. We are all equal, but some people don't give a

i'll second that.
I'd rather get rid of stupidity and antisocial behaviour than fireworks, because that will solve nearly all problems in one fell swoop. It's not going to happen though. |
