I'd say raptor was a good choice provided you don't want that 'showroom smooth' finish. The problem with powdercoats is that it's a broad church in terms of quality. I'd say at the top end of the market though the finish will stand up to coastal weather. But, if it chips then....hello rust! The Nakatenenga wheel carrier is stainless and powdercoated to a very high standard. But I accept not cheap. HTH. |

Well done with the New Defender Like you I live right on the coast, normally I take bits to our local trailer supplier and get them galvanized, Ive done this like you say with brand new parts in the past. Powder-coating on new accessories in most cases is simply not up to the job. Hope this helps, thats what i'd do if I were you. Cheers Tom |

First welcome Matt..
There are makers of items such as tubular bumpers, rock and tree sliders etc. with that is a wide range of price and quality. The cheaper end of the market tends to have just a quick blast over with a lick of paint or powder coated. The other end of the market is hot dipped galvanised and then powder coated. That way if you damage the powder coating it does not rust. Why buy a powder coated version, get it stripped, ensured it is drilled then hot dipped galv then powder coated? You will hit minimum charge quantities and have transport cost as well! Safari Equip are local to us and their gear comes hot dipped galv then powder coated. It might cost you a bit more in the first place but could save you time and money in the long term. Whell carriers? We can supply their range of wheel carriers hot dipped galv and powder coated. Or we can supply the Nakatanenga stainless wheel carrier either naked stainless or powder coated. Could you not speak to one of the UK manufactureres and just ask them to sell you one galv'ed but not powder coated? That way, you can have it coated with a Polyurea coating.
If you go this way, I beleive you need to ask the manufacturer to T-wash the item once Galvanised. This prepares the zinc to allow a primer to key to it. Any decent galvaniser will tell you the process required. Have a look at Blackline SV. They market Polyurea coating. They'll give you an idea of what is possible, although they seem bloody expensive. THey market it as the newest thing in the world, but it's been around a long time. Mabe search truckliner near to you and ask them to coat your parts next time they've got the kit out to do a truckbed? Could save you a few quid. |

Thanks for all the quick responses.... I don't mind leaving everything galvanised, I know it discolours in time but my galv trailer and work roof rack have faired well with building use Even if powder over galv I think I will have to keep touching up? |

May I suggest you come and look at our vehicles on stand J14.
You will see items which are brand new plus items which have been on our vehicles for up to 10 years. R + T sliders, (someone says we abuse our vehicles I say we use them) then you will see how they stand up to use. Brendan |

Just have the items galvanised yourself, that is what I have done over the years. Rear bumperettes, capping, side-bars, swing-away carrier, light-guards, steering guard bracket, battery-box, radiator surrounds, slam-panel, bulkhead etc etc etc.
The place I use is in Sawtry (less than 10-miles from Peterborough), they prep the items and then dip. Turnaround time is usually 2-3 days and while they have just introduced a minimum order of £50 you would be amazed at the volume of items this will include. ONE LIFE, GET IT! |

If you are having items galv and then powder coated make sure that they treat the galv properly after the hot dip process as this can effect how well the powder coating sticks to the galv.
