What is this switch?

Just realized that I had this little SPST rocker switch under the dash, it appears that it is clock graphic or guage graphic on it? Can someone tell me what it does? Cannot seem to find any reference to it.

It should enable you to turn off the instrument's background illumination when the headlamps are switched-on.

I had thought so too, but nothing happens with the dash lights. Must be disconnected or broken?? 2010 Range Rover MkIII Autobiography Super Charged (Idris)

If you use a small screwdriver under the front edge of the switch, you should be able to drop it out of the panel, to check and see if the wires are still attached to it.

Most have a blanking plate in there. Perhaps this switch was added to control some other feature?  1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top

Ours has an identical switch there (without the symbol) which operates the roof beacons.

Probably something someone added on aftermarket (spotlamps or similar)!

Is it for switching the dash illumination on/off, or dimming the dash illumination from bright, to not so bright?

I think I have figured it out. Took the switch and panel off and tried tracing the wires. An OEM plug is spliced into two white wires leaving the bulkhead to the engine bay. They are most definitely not hooked up to the dash lights. It also turns out the switch is an on off on type not SPST. Odd set up as this was LR installed according to the build information I have. I believe it controls the currently non functioning drving lights on the bumper. i appreciate all the responses. It helped. Wierd placement for a switch though. I plan on installing a MUD Stuff centre dash console and will relocate this and few others.
