Anyone any idea what to use to remove this odd nut?

You could try grinding a notch and then use a flat drift and a hammer to loosen it. First spraying with release oil. For those who like Welsh Mountains and narrow boats have a look at my videos and photos at..

That might be the only way, looks like it had some sort of tool supplied initially like a locking wheel nut key perhaps? Andy

Hi,
If you don't need to keep the nut and similarly to Gilarion grind into the nut on the side furthest away from the large tube but 90deg to it. Once your very nearly through, so you don't end up cutting through the bracket, drive a chisel into the cut and the nut should split open enough to loosing it from the threads. Another though if you have a grinder they usually come with a pin spanner to assemble the disk to the machine, you may be lucky and find the pins will fit in two of the holes. For those who like Welsh Mountains and narrow boats have a look at my videos and photos at..

you can get adjustable pin spanners, or as gilarion says try one from a grinder.
You should be able to put a punch at an angle in the hole and knock it round too. If you really get in a muddle, measure them and I'll see if we've got a spare grinder key of the right size. You get a new one with each grinder and we've got stacks of all sorts of sizes, some of which don't fit any of our current grinders. |

drill a hole in a bit of strip or something similar and arc weld it on, the heat from welding will loosen the nut and then use the strip to undo it DEFENDER 90 TDCI XS,

Not as daft as it sounds ...... We usually tap a couple of roll pins into two holes and use a prybar across them to undo  Guns and Landrovers .... anything else is irrelevant. |

Needle nose pliers, the thickest that will fit into the holes, open them out, insert.
Push down on the handles whilst levering with a flat blade screwdriver, or podger, or similar which is passed through the jaws of the pliers. Or any of the other suggestions will maybe do the job, assuming it isn't horrendously seized in place, then heat and patience are your friends "Procrastination is the thief of time" |
