I have these fitted on the front and the thinner versions for the rear
![]() Click image to enlarge The fronts are castellated, the rear ones are more like a thick bike inner tube and really don't seem to do much at all. The front however did (in my opinion) make quite a difference to my 110 ![]() Click image to enlarge Pic showing how they fit. On a 110 the rear springs are thicker and larger diameter so they don't fit hence the inner tube type but if you have a 90 you can fit the castellated ones all round. Be warned, you can do them top and bottom but if you do you have to use a spring clamp as I found mine kept wandering around. If your doing a spring change or damper change I would recommend doing them but I wouldn't set out to do it specially as the difference is very subtle. Would you notice vibrations from the suspension? Mine will feel much better (its does already from just the rears being done).
According to the LR Parts catalogue there should be some on the rear as well but between the lower spring mount and then spring http://new.lrcat.com/#!/1228/7048/7554/674/7627 Part No. 22 But non on my 110 other than the rubber sleeve over the first few coils. 1999 Defender TD5 110 Regards John M0VAZ Econet Station 48 no clock |

That is the bike tubey bit
![]() It just slips over the spring so it would be the rubber sleeve you see your other 110 Running Restoration Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/post323197.html#323197 Self confessed mileage hunter ![]() |

Why thicker on the front and thinner on the rear?
Surely also what ever you do use it has to be very robust like Munch was pretty much suggesting or they'll just fail. Not sure exactly what mine has on, none as far as I'm aware as its aftermarket springs anyway. I was looking into the D44 turrets too with D44 HD turret rings. This is something that I'd have to look at as the D44 rings appear thicker than genuine. So those coupled with isolators might be a bit of lift put together. So maybe in that instance thinner isolator front thicker rear. I have no problem with genuine turret rings but the fact is the OE turrets are a pain for shock removal or bush changes. And of course you can't have D44 turrets with OE turret rings due to the fact the captive bolts aren't long enough I believe. I'm still wondering if I'd need to buy a spring compressor just to make the job easier. |

I removed the rear springs without compressors, but it made life easier to install new ones when compressed. I guess I could have done without if I undid the rear ARB to axle mount. But as I had the spring compressors I used them. 1999 Defender TD5 110

Here's the D44 turrets:

I had x8 rubber spring isolators fitted last week.
I got them from First Four , around £45 ish for the 8 of them. They are around 10-12 mm depth a piece, and have effectively given the 90 a 1" lift all round, with one at the top , and one at the bottom of each spring. This looks a bit better as it was a bit sagged with the various things I have fitted, and carry, and I swear, no placebo b ollocks, it genuinely feels, less harsh clattery over all surfaces, in a word, just like I have rubber seperating metal to metal parts.... Which I have ![]() It's subtle, but it's almost like I have reduced the tyre pressures all around. "Procrastination is the thief of time" |

Glad I saw this post regarding the isolators, it's not a job you can do ad hoc either so bets to fit and forget. (Hopefully)
