Did the garage "suggest" replacing the injector loom?
If there is oil at the ecu, it WILL need replacing, the engine loom will need cleaning ecu end and injector end, and keep cleaning it over a period of a couple of weeks until all the oil is out. The ecu may also need a clean out.
As for the TPS fault, that's self explanatory. It wasn't me!

Hi Ozzy,

I replaced the injector loom a couple of weeks back.

New development: Got recovered back to the garage on Wednesday after breaking down again on the way to work.

When I rang later they said they'd opened the ECU and found oil inside it. After cleaning it out they said that all the readings were back to normal and a long test drive didn't show up any faults.

When I went to collect it the owner wouldn't take any money because in his words "all we've done is clean it. It seems to be working but I can't guarantee that we've isolated the fault."

"Luckily", as I reversed out of the parking space the engine light came on!

Now waiting for news....

This just in:

Mechanic has swapped the ECU and the throttle sensor (from another Defender TD5) and its still showing the fault. He said the MAF sensor needed changing but that wouldn't cause it to go to limp mode. He's done a line check on the cable from throttle to ECU and that seems OK.

He also said that he had a similar problem a while ago that turned out to be a faulty plug at the throttle sensor so he's going to have a look at that.

He's keeping the Defender over the weekend and an auto-electrician is coming in on Monday to cast an expert eye over it.

I've got a courtesy car so I'm still mobile Very Happy

Just relieved that it doesn't appear to be the ECU that's at fault...

Do you have a cruise control system fitted? I had a little different problem. It sometimes suddenly lost any reaction off the throttle. I made a on off switch for the Cruise controll system and from that moment I didn't have the problem anymore. Roel

ECU faults are no problem anyway Wink I had one with the same fault a while ago, I can't remember if the fault was the harness plugs by the clutch master cylinder on the bulkhead or if I just rewired the throttle potentiometer from the pedal to the ECU.......

Turns out one of the wires had separated from a pin in the throttle assembly plug.

Found by chance and soldered to within an inch of its life...!

Fingers crossed...
