in all honesty mate, its you that seems to be a little out of touch. Hard men doing hard jobs sometimes get into tussles. Always have. Always will. Cowards, or the kind of men that would run tattling to the boss whenever they see a fight wouldnt last 10 minutes in a hard physical job like railway or offshore etc..
You seem to be having a go at me in particular for some reason. Dont know exactly why? Must have hit a sore point Laughing

Gilarion no worries just felt a slight 'tarring' which was certainly not the case...... Laughing

I can see exactly why people are signing it and agree with the sentiment 100%. Nevertheless in my opinion (and that is all it is) the petition has 'gone off piste'. If it were solely a freedom of speech one and nothing to do with JC and his reinstatement believe you me I too would sign it like a shot but it isn't and that is a shame.

But surely people sign the petition for their own reasons. Whether it be they like JC, or freedom of speech, or that they just dont want to see TG split up....

K9F we are both on the same page here and I totally agree that the petition has in some factors been taken over, that is what I meant in a post of yesterday

Quote:
Clarkson because of his outspokenness and not bowing down to the politically correct has over the last twenty four hours become a figurehead or raison d'être for people to voice their concerns on the curtailing of free speech and voiced views in this country instigated by a government, who many it seems use the exact same language in private (Example Andrew Mitchell).

I also believe that many are now signing it because it has become the thing to do, due to all the publicity, it is still climbing in number by over two thousand an hour an d has nearly reached the three quarters of a million mark which for a TV presenter is a bit ridiculous. For those who like Welsh Mountains and narrow boats have a look at my videos and photos at..

I'm challenging your particular view on this and nothing else; using words rather than my fists - I hope that does not make you feel uncomfortable or unable to respond objectively? We would probably agree on many other things. It's not personal as it's your view not you I had a go at.

As to being out of touch, you may think I am - I started my career in the coal mining industry, have worked in the rail industry and finished my career working for an offshore gas company. Somewhere inbetween I served several years in the military (TA) - so I think I've got around enough to know how real men behave, especially when they quite literally have each others lives in their hands on a shift by shift basis.

Not sure if you were referring to JC or not, but I certainly wouldn't be describing him or his job in terms of "hard men doing hard jobs"; and "always have always will" is just a little too fatalistic for me.

As you have questioned by ability to teach I feel I have to answer your post. I do not set tests; tests are for primary and secondary schools. I do read and evaluate student thesis and disitations and help in the appraisals of final exams. I also have a record of most of my students receiving a first or 2.1 in their finals.

My apologies if you feel I called your ability into question, that was not my intention with my earlier post.

I clearly do not have your level of education or professional standing as I have no idea what a "disitation" is, I did tests and wrote something completely different for my degree...

But that is NOT what the petition is about? It is flying under the banner of 'Reinstatement' nothing more! Sentiment gets you nowhere, a real petition about 'real issues' would not cause such a stir today but would be more beneficial to the general populous rather than those addicted to a particular television programme perhaps? TG would live on with or without him. I can see the emotion and reasoning behind this but it is misguided to think that signing it will make any difference to freedom of speech or expression.

Was it George Bernard Shaw who said - Those who can, do; those who cant, teach; those who can teach, teach those who can do?

In my layman's term 'Jezza does a Prezza' - Jezza is told to go home - Prezza gets told to carry on running the country? Fair? you decide Laughing Jumped ship to reliability - Mitsubishi L200

People are really missing the point - why are the BBC wasting licence payers money on putting the crew up in country house hotels - there's an F1 in Newcastle. Confused

To be honest im not even sure you know what my view is. All ive been trying to say from the beginning is that there are far too many overly-pc do gooders in this country just looking for something to offend them. And unfortunately for these people if they listen to JC they will more than likely get what they ask for. Im not JC's biggest fan or anything like that. I just respect that he says what he feels and doesnt care about being overly pc.

Ive also spent time in the military. Though it was in the regulars. Its an entirely different ball game though to working in a hard job. You should know that if you have worked on railway and offshore. Though you dont say if your jobs were office based where its nice and cosy warm and the guys would worry about chipping there nails and sweating a little.

I wasnt referring to JC having a hard job. It certainly isnt.

Thank you apologies excepted Thumbs Up to be honest I think I was a bit over-sensitive this morning I am usually a lot thicker skinned.

A dissertation is a final year project, a form of assessment. The expectation is that the learner, takes responsibility for their own learning and that they produce a literature review, they choose a method for undertaking a study, write up their findings and discuss the outcomes.

However what a dissertation really is more easily explained, it’s a load of words whose only aim really is to tell the person who wrote them how ingenious they are and has no other purpose in life. Whistle For those who like Welsh Mountains and narrow boats have a look at my videos and photos at..

I also enjoy some of JC's antics and how he can wind some people up with his antics - so we can agree on that Smile

If I was looking for a job, I'd send you my cv, but as I'm happily retired I'll pass on that Laughing
