Don't do it, that's my suggestion, unless you're going to be walking over the wings and bonnet. I personally don't like checker plate, but I can see why western power and other utility companies fit it.

Ta answer your question, you will need to drill holes where you'd like to fit it, then fix it with either pop rivets or some kind of countersunk fixing. A friend of mine had it fitted from new and it appears to have a thin layer of rubber or similar sandwiched between it and the wing tops.

I like the practicality of it. If you intend fitting a rack or doing your own work on the Landy it can be invaluable for bodily support when kneeling or resting on the wings toiling away. The bonnet is handy as my rack is a shorty as is SWMBO so walking on the bonnet is the easiest way of loading/unloading. The sills and sidesteps are now gone, replaced with R & T sliders. Mine is all fitted with gaskets and stainless fittings. It is a one way process that can be costly if you decide to revert back to standard.

I have the wing top plate on mine in black so you don't really see it on a black car.
I've seen people use the wing top to look into their rucksack for something and it wasn't their car. So I do like it within reason. When I get the Heritage I will be leaving it as standard due to colour not looking right with plate on It and it won't really be left anywhere open for abuse by Joe public. My sills could do with it as I have scratches from getting in and out. Horses for courses. |

IMHO Unless you are keeping the truck or need it, don't fit anything that can't be removed without trace

Especially handy up the pub Christmas Day when the sun is shining and there's no room to swing a cat because everyone else had the same idea.

Flat wing tops will always be used to place things on, and not just by you as owner.
Get some fitted, not seen one with it making it look worse. It's a practical solution on a practical vehicle. |

Definitely fit it.
We have wing tops, REALLY useful for placing stuff on etc, & we have the sills done, stops scuffing getting in & out & also the rear corners,...may as well get the lot! Pickles. |

Thanks for the opinions and views. I dont need them from a practical point of vieq i just liked them for the look. The only thing im not keen on is having holes in the car where they are riveted in. This is my first Defender so its all a bit New to me

If you don't need them, don't fit them. There's no going back once the panels are full of holes!
If you really want them, just fit the wing tops where they are useful but not too obvious. Would a series 1s look better with it? Each to their own, it's your choice. |

On my 110 puma I have silver CP on the wing tops and find it invaluable. I am considering putting a black sheet on the bonnet top as I have found it useful to climb on the wings to access the roof rack. In the absence of any bonnet protection I found myself balancing with my weight on the wing with one foot and the other on the bonnet hinge (seemed the strongest place)
The vehicle is black and I have roof rack mounted spots, so thought I would get less reflections from the lights. Can anyone suggest a supplier of good quality black CP for the bonnet. Chris 2010 Defender 110 Station Wagon, Santorini Black. |

Mammoth make it all the usual suspects supply it, First Four, John Craddocks etc. Hunt round for a price, I would suggest if Paddocks do it their price may be the cheapest and it's a good place to start.
