So... I had to call out LR assist earlier in the week to sort out an issue which turned out to be a faulty steering angle sensor... To diagnose, he plugged in a laptop to a socket under the dash.
I'm guessing that software/hardware is a closely guarded item as far as LR is concerned... So does anyone know where I can get a copy and buy the hardware lead? ![]() ...or are there other equal products on the market? Much like the RossTech VAG-COM system for Audis/VWs etc... B |

For 2015 MY Steering angle sensor for the DSC system !! Yep, been there, was not faulty ? as such, just needed to be re calibrated,, Unless you want to spend loads, you will not be able to play with the vehicle's software,, a cheap scangauge will be able to read and reset simple trouble codes California F1, 75th 110 "Kermit", 50th Ann V8, 90 V8 Hybrid, 55 Series 1 Main Brian James Trailer Dealer for South West UK |

There's the normal:
Blackbox Nanocom Britpart Lynx Bearmach Hawkeye Terrfirma (iCarSoft thing which isn't all that intuitive unless you just want error codes) I know the LR system for the TD5 and previous was the Testbook, which will set you back 4 figures. The Nanocom can do most of it though. For the Puma's, there's plenty of rip-off/copy units floating around on some of the Chinese OBD sites. There's also a Mongoose cable I believe which is a home brew system to. Designed to talk to later (OBD protocol) defenders. There's the SmartGauge and UltraGauge system to which is good for codes and live stream data. I also have a Delphi clone system which is pretty good. Gets a good chunk of info from the TD5's and can cover a good 60-70% of Puma stuff. Great for live recording and playing back using charts and tables. I also have the Nanocom with Def TD5, Disco TD5 and Def Puma and it's a lovely easy system! |

Don't forget also on the list is Faultmate from Black Box, which has most of the capabilities of the genuine item (and more than Nanocom).

Yeah, FaultMate is good to. Though I dont think this is sold anymore, unless one comes up on eBay?
BlackBox just said to get the Nanocom when I asked basically. The Puma's can also put out a good amount of info through the Bluetooth OBD modules and aps like TorquePro etc etc. Great for leaving them plugged in permanently if you're into that kind'a thing ![]() Think the new system is JLR SDD/IDS? Something like that! No good for TD5 though! |

Whether it's faulty or just needs calibrating, LR still have my defender and it's been over a week now! Christ knows what they're doing to it!!
In the meantime, I'm still driving around in their £65k Discovery HSE loan car! It's a bit too comfortable... Cheers for the info/advice about the gear though! Will look into it... |

Hmm... Damn! I was almost positive they said to me they were discontinuing the faultmate. That's what I was after over the nanocom.
Ah well. Might just have to expand the kit one day just to try one :p! Unless I can find an uber cheap T4! |

Currently using SDD. It'll cost you upwards of £8k for one unit, and you'll have to jump through hoops to prove that you're entitled to use it. An engine to TDi for!

There are clones around that do work rather well.
