Td5 hub nut torque
Hi all just replacing front and rear discs on my 03 90 defender
I am fitting new hub nuts but need to know torque setting please

150 ft/lb .... assuming you mean the single lock nut type assembly?

Although you posted this yesterday so have probably already completed the job Razz

I'm surprised no-one else bother to give you the requested information Rolling Eyes Guns and Landrovers .... anything else is irrelevant.

Thank for info. Yes it is single nut type
I haven't completed the job yet but changed one of the rear discs tonight along with calliper
I have got all 4 discs to change by the weekend for mot on Saturday
I was very surprised how cheap the rear calliper was from paddock £24 plus the vat

that will be an aftermarket caliper not original

if caliper isn't rusted your better off with a genuine rebuild kit

Fitted the after market caliper and all ok so far
It fitted well and looks a quality bit of kit but time will tell

I thought everyone binned the single stake nut nowdays and went back to the old style nuts and tab washer. Allows better bearing pre load adjustment when you start getting a bit of play.

X2 on that!
I binned those stupid staked in nuts (one per stub axle) and swapped them for the two per stub axle kit with locking washers, good job I did due to the bearings needing adjusted up during routine maintenance.
Another down side to the staked on nut system is that if one ever comes to remove and fails to un-stake the nut correctly the thread gets damaged.. I had to replace all four stub axles aswel..

No way, not me [Or anyone i know]

Bearings don't go 'out' of adjustment, If there is play then it's worn, tightening out the play is just a bodge basically.

LR didn't change to the single nut system just for the hell of it Rolling Eyes Guns and Landrovers .... anything else is irrelevant.

Got to agree with you on that Dave H . I've never understood why people would want to change back to the old tab washer set up.
After 130k my hubs have never been touched, except when changing the discs , when the bearings get a re grease , and then all put back to standard , and torqued accordingly..... Simples

Backward move in my opinion, just like the non servicable bearings on the td5 disco. Instead of 50 quid for new bearings , a couple of hundred quid for a complete new hub.

I've also avoided swapping back to the old system (so far,lol),50k on original bearings (er,so far),stripped,cleaned and greased last year. Pov.spec,ftw. 2006, 110,TD5.

It's not a new hub you need just the correct size "spacer".Which, admittedly can be a pita,can't remember "how to" exactly but you need a dial gauge.Think it's just the Disco need hubs.
Typical of any manufacturer tho is to use as little grease as possible on assembly,should I ever buy a new defender Rolling Eyes the first thing i'd do is re-grease the bearings properly,lol. Pov.spec,ftw. 2006, 110,TD5.

Yeah just the disco needs new hubs not defender. All bearings will eventually wear even when greased but the old system is easier to work with and maintain out in the field. Stake nuts are a use once item, tab washers can be flattened and used again. An example of LR cost cutting imo
