will do. It is quite close now, 3mm or thereabouts, but will have another go over the weekend I think. It is a nice looking HU so worth the OCD fiddling about! It sounds good too even with OE speakers, tho maybe some 4" coaxials may be worthwhile later since pioneer ones seem to a possibility for under £20. On the whole I quite pleased with it, The donor, hitherto a non LR owner, has just bought an old Disco 1....so I think the Alpine will be heading back that way.

Having failed last night to get the HU and it's gubbins to fit in so that the HU sat flush, I thought I would have another go tonight. Once again having tired many strategies, I resorted to taking it out and putting it back in the hope that the plugs would just happen to fall into the right place on their own. This didn't work either....until I gave up shoved it back in...and ta-da

the plugs DID just happen to fall into the right place on their own!

Happy days! Thanks Steve and Jimbob, that's a fiver saved on a nasty spacer!

Touch wood you have no troubles from trapped wires now.

What plugs was it?

Did think about trapped wires.....but it is all working! It actually slid in dead easy this time. The plugs in question are the ISO plugs. The loom has ISOs and so I have used a Kenwood DIN to ISO adaptor (found 1 for £3.99 on eblag). This only had about 6 inches of cable between the DIN and ISO which I think caused the problem!

2002 Defender 110 Td5 CSW Zermatt Silver

Not sure if you got your speakers sorted, but i fitted a pair of component Focal speakers that have the tweeters on top of the dash and then they wire into the main 4" mid range under the dash. They sound great, however they do come at a cost!! In fact they are some of the best speakers i have heard.
