I think that 80" ali bulkheads are a bit like Type 35 Bugattis - there are more of them now than were ever actually built! They are certainly extremely rare, 100 sounds about right. It is an easy shape to recreate, although I'd do it in steel, not ali, for ease and durability. |

im sure under construction rules and regs you have to have steel bulkhead as a fire wall , not sure when that rule started maybe that's why they never made many.
or maybe made for export or something |

They were only made to keep producution going whilst the press tool for the steel bulkhead was repaired, no other reason. The 80" aluminium bulkhead has a steel frame but the footwell panels etc are alloy. I'm not sure if C&U now requires a steel bulkhead, but it certainly didn't then - most vintage cars have an aluminium bulkhead (or "firewall"). |

What a lovely 80". I'm not jealous. At all. Of it. Or the barn full of Land Rovers, and the other barn, and the other one...I'm not sure who has more rarities, Jeremy or Phil Bashall!

With that early-looking 'FF' registration number, it must have been registered when new in North Wales, not far from where I am now. Merioneth, I think.

If I can find out anything to do with its history, from the local archives, I'll let you know.
Many years ago, we bought an 86", which turned out to be a factory prototype, first owned by Sir John Black, chairman of Standard-Triumph, who later took up farming in North Wales, I believe. That one was registered NAC 750. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Black_(businessman) Ray |
