After a extensive search I'm a little bit the wiser.
Will look at:
- Rubbers on doors, windows... - Engine compartment (leaks) - Underbody leaks - Headlamp surrounds - If the EGR makes the correct noise - Paint flakings on the rear cross member Any other suggestions? |

My 110 warranty finishes early September, and my dealer without prompting them advised me to book it in about a month before it's first MOT which is when the warranty ends, and they will give it a pre MOT check and iron out any potential problems and resolve under warranty.
Other things to check, Clutch rattle whilst idling, or in 1st gear low box. Transission handbrake binding when hot. Front bumper corrosion. Mud flap brackets corrosion. Side runners if fitted paint flaking. All above should be covered under warranty, also EGR should make a nice chukka chukka sound when turning engine off, not a screeching sound. Best Of Luck Cheers |

Clutch rattle whilst idling, or in 1st gear low box. => don't think so.
Transission handbrake binding when hot. => don't think so. Front bumper corrosion. => not original so not applicable. Mud flap brackets corrosion. => yes, thx, will ask. Side runners if fitted paint flaking. => they are to banged up to have them fix it under warranty I'm afraid . EGR should make a nice chukka chukka sound when turning engine off, not a screeching sound. => think it's allright, but it seems louder then when I just had it (maybe telling myself things here, but it's worth to ask). |

Has a lot to do withthe fuel quality you buy. On a related note, will you not consider to buy Land Rover extended warranty for up to another 3 years? I know that a lot of UK members are blasting this as useless, but can assure you here in Switzerland it is a first class warranty, offered by Land Rover themselves, not by some 3rd party insurance comp, and the annual premium includes the annual maintenance too for the time you take this warranty. I did not have to use the extended warranty all too often in year 4 and 5 except for a leaking rear diff seal which under my Swiss extended warranty actually was repaired by Land Rover Antwerpen as it all happened on a trip over there... But now in year 6 I had some suspected play in my rear halfshafts, which believe was already there from new, and without any discussion, Land Rover swallowed the entire bill for my dealer fitting two brand new half shafts. I have seen the dealer invoice to Land Rover for that, and was happy that I did not have to pay myself. More expensive than the combined bill for the 3 years extended warranty premium I paid. Maybe worth considering.... Land Rover Belgium might be good in this respect too..... If you do it, make sure you buy the first year extended warranty latest on the day before the 3 year warranty expires. Eric You never actually own a Defender. Extended warranty in the UK? It was £70 per month ballpark.....

^^ That is what I said about UK. Belgium might be different though, more like the Swissies here
Edit: £70/month? That indeed is a rip off then in UK, as it is more expensive than what you pay in (usually very expensive) Switzerland, and in Switzerland the extended warranty premium includes the annual maintenance by the Land Rover dealer. And when it comes to honouring claims, they do pay as I experienced. You never actually own a Defender. My truck is now three years out of warranty and based on the cost of the extended one I have saved myself potentially £2,500. It is a lot of money should you not have the misfortune to cash in on it and could buy you quite a lot if you do have issues.
I suppose it depends on usage, if I covered extensive miles it may have been worth the peace of mind perhaps? If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!! Treat every day as if it is your last....one day you will be right!! |

In Belgium it was +1200 euro/year for a Freelander 2 when I asked about it last year. No maintenance, no drivetrain issues are included. So I think it's more like the UK version. Switzeland is not part of the EU (wright?) so they probably can enforce different rules. On the other hand, I pay less than 150 euro yearly roadtax which I presume in Switzeland is a different matter.
So I don't think I 'll do that as I suspect it'll be even more expensive for a Defender. I'll put the 1500 in a savingsaccount instead. |

I was given the same advice by a Land Rover dealer when last I could afford to buy one still in warranty. The next car I bought from a main dealer (from new) told me that I was suggesting some sort of fraud when I requested the same service. Hey-ho, I'm back in the LR camp. Next question, I bought a 4 year old Defender which (allegedly) came with a LR 1 year warranty. It's up for service now, if I take it to a different LR main dealer will the warranty apply for any faults they find? My final checklist (not all stuff mentioned is applicable to me, so it's a personalized list):
Bodywork checkup: Bulkhead Check seams, focus on roof Windscreen surround an hinges Puddles Rear crossmember Headlight fittings Rubbers doors and windows Mudflaps corrosion Chassis rust Bushes Mechanics: EGR noise Motor compartment: leaks, wet spots an wiring Underside: leaks, wet spots and wiring (transfer case / transmission / diffs) Wiring high pressure sensor Fuel filter neck breather pipe Other: State of dasboard dails screen This is based on what people tell me they had issue with and I have it fitted on my car and isn't banged up by me. PS Since today I have the dreaded death wobble, so monday is just in time to get that sorted as well. Recently installed HD track an steering rods and had a panhard bush sorted so I suspect it's something else. I could not find play on the wheels so I fear it may be the steering itself. Just in time I guess. After the first round I'm gonna let an independant go over it as well once it is returned. |
