I worry sometimes how long any LR will be made in the UK (apart from specials). Now Tata owns the company, moving construction to India, or China, or somewhere cheaper is a danger IMO. LROI has said pre-2014 Defenders will only be made overseas for sale to the developing world. Will 2014 Defenders be good enough, & competitively priced enough to compete with & beat other modern trucks, vans etc? I bought a Defender to own an icon & fulfill a boyhood dream (would have got any, whatever the latest model was), as well as being a 4 x 4 fan. The more the original LR evolves away, the more desirable retro seems. Having said that a V-anything engine would win me over.  Land Rover Defenders. 67 years heritage, minimal appearance changes, still going strong all over the world. Not a fashion vehicle, but fashionable to own. Made for the needy, not the greedy. The more we buy them, the more they will stay british
I personally love the current line up - i see them all (having been in a jeep) as easily able to take them on. Give me a Land Rover any day and im sure we can get it to tow the jeep anyway  Mike |

Histories of each one are different...
But we will never trade our Defender for one Jeep When we start to seek the "new" car for our family we look at least 30 models from minivans, trucks, all wheel drive, 4x4 to name some types. Our main specs were a diesel car with at least six comfortable seats with space to load our luggage. A car that can be used in rough terrains or highways without too much worry. Given that specs the Defender 110 was the winner over other cars like the Sangyong Actyon; the Jeep Commander and Toyota (so expensive here) that were in the short list. For sure is an Icon, but for us was bought due the versality more than for this iconic figure. Anyway thanks to this we made a good bunch of friends here in Chile and abroad that probably I will dont do it with other car and that is an upside.
