Cubby Boxes
Looking at purchasing a new lockable cubby for my Defender. The only issue I have is that I have the upgraded stereo system with the amp on the rear of the cubbybox. If I upgrade to any of the standard cubbys, MSS, FCX etc this will then put the amp in the rear footwell where space for the rear passengers is already tight.

So has anyone changed their standard cubby? If so what did you do with the amp? Or did you just live with the loss of space? To be fair I won't ever sit in the back so it doesn't really bother me but I don't want it kicked and trashed if I can help it. 110 D250 SE HT

I made a unit to hold a subwoofer that sits under the cubby, between the cubby and seatbox. Works for me, maybe something similar might work?

I didn't want to put the sub on the back of the cubby since it would prevent the rear seats (it's a 110 DC) from tipping forward.

I have a lok box on my 110, well made and would easily accommodate an amp either under or on the back

Many thanks, In my ideal world I would be fitting an MSS cubby. Need to have a look at it properly when I get back to see what my options are.
Will have a search for lok box and see if that suits my needs 110 D250 SE HT

If the AMP is plug & play, then perhaps you could get an extension cable made up, then just "move" it to somewhere more suitable... under the middle seats?

Mine has a subwoofer next to the battery under the passenger seat, seems plenty of room in there, i bought the set as it is it so i'm not to sure if its had stuff moved from there. A man with no boat is a prisoner

Not kowing how much room is under the seat I can't comment. But I do know from pics that I've been sent the amp is quite big and it looks like the LR cubby is a shortened version to make room for it. Sad .
Hence all the issues I'm having. 110 D250 SE HT

Might the sub fit in a MSS cubby? Do you know how big the MSS cubby is? Do you want the sub dims.?

Chris

I have a feeling this is going to be an ongoing project for when I get back. I have no idea of the internal dims of a MSS cubby or if there is a way to mount the amp inside without causing heat issues.
I had hoped it would be a simple upgrade and I could order it in before I returned home.
Why is nothing in life simple??? 110 D250 SE HT

Assuming that they MSS cubby box has not changed in dimensions since I bought mine way back, then the internal dims. are 245h (200h with oddment tray in place) x 240w x 305l aperture - since the front slopes the bottom of the box ix slightly longer. The Alpine sub in my 110 is 120 x 280 x 215 so I think the sub would fit inside the MSS box if it were flat on the bottom or against one side. Not ideal, but having looked I do not think it would fit easily under the second row seats.

Reckon I might be able to glue some string together if I can get the plugs.
