I was watching a front wheel drive Volvo trying to get out of a parking space on the side of a snow covered street yesterday. One wheel was spinning, the other not. Could hear the traction control working but it couldn't seem to send enough torque to the other wheel to get it moving. How much torque can traction control send over by braking the spinning wheel? In the case I watched it seemd quite bad, but that was a Volvo, not a Land Rover. Is the Land Rover system any better???!

Anyone know what the two threaded holes in the side of the diff are for or is it another case of "why is there a big hole in the rear chassis cross member" Laughing

I think that you'll find that those are fit a bracket to hold a harmonic damper on other models that use the same diff.

Edit - the P38 Range Rover has an harmonic damper fitted here on auto models. See very small ebay picture

^^^ as black wolf said, P38 hang over.

some manf. now use them as mounting holes for diff guards.

depending on your year of build will depend whether or not you have those holes. Cheers

Thanks - when you know what to look for, it's easier to find photos:
