Are the retaining lugs seated properly? 1982 88" 2.25 diesel
1992 110 200tdi csw -Zikali
2008 110 2.4 tdci csw-Zulu

Yes, checked that. Seems the tolerances are so big it just rattles. Options seem to be:

1. Pack edge behind quarter turn fastener with a stip of foam
2. Fit a locking or spacer washer
3. Fit a second quarter turn fastener
4. Swap quarter turn fastener for a bolt that can be torqued up to a higher setting

Earlier in the topic reference was made to drawing fuel through via a bleed tool, where does the bleed tool connect to?

If you do it carefully, as in the video, pre filling the filter you should not need to bleed any fluid

2009 Defender 90 Puma 2.4 XS CSW Santorini Black

When I removed my fuel filter cover for the first time I was surprised how heavy it was. I suppose it has to be solid to offer protecion for the filter. So as the plastic butterfly nut seemed a bit weak for that mass of metal I added an extra fastner by drilling a 5mm hole through the cover and backplate. And bolted up with a nut, bolt and locking washer. I know this is now not quick release but my overkill aircraft inspectors brain would not let me be until I had done it. No rattling now. (added to Supacats pic to show approx where the hole is drilled).

sat13 - I think that might be the best solution - not sure why a quick release fastener has been used here anyway - hardly a daily/weekly service item is it.

you don't need one. Just fill it with diesel. You don't even have to fill it to the top
