As Brendan alluded too, any 4x4 is going to be reasonably capable. Most of it is with the driver. I've towed plenty of people this week, and 2 defenders as well. No point scoffing about it though, one day I might need a tow. Enough with the tribal brand crap of "we are better than you because of what we drive"

^^
When I joined a 4x4 response group (Yorkshire/ Lincolnshire) you got paid for the diesel you used. All you did was put in the claim after doing the call-out and it was refunded by the service that needed you. Yes you had to pay to be a member (how else will a group operate) but at the same time it was like a 4x4 club with training offered for free from general driving skills to winching and first aid so in the end you got as much out as you put in. i joined a few years ago and realised that the "best" jobs went to the regualrs and the that my time was worth more than 28p per mile! So i assisted last night for free, arranged for the farmer to plough the hill on the A37 and got the idiots who were within inches of each other away via a tractor tow. I saw loads of 4x4 response vehicle driving past! ![]() AS for landrover PR i'd like to say everyone was impressed with the 110 and we got loads of thankyous which m akes it worth doing. |

ok fella point taken but this is just a little banter between Land rovers and other 4x4's, as in the way they would say about us and at the end of the day we have or club and views and they have theres so dont see your problem? I understand everyone has your views but if you dont like the thread dont read or reply its that simple! The rest of us seem to be fine with it and the thread is turning in to a topic of bad weather, 4x4 response chat etc etc, and thing that we have all been doing to help others in need and at the end of the day ![]() |

![]() ![]() Tyre's are often their problem. They think having 4wd make it invincible but they've practically got slicks on as tyre's and can't work out for the life of them why they keep getting stuck. ![]() ![]() ___\âï¸Lone|Star|State/___ ____\We|Will|Win/___ ____/🇬🇧🇺🇸\____ _//*⛽ï¸ðŸ›¢ï¸âš™ï¸ðŸ§°*\\_ |

There was a guy in a FL2 that wouldn't go up the hill, his back wheels were no driving at all? i told him to book it in as the haldex units can fail and so can the control unit. I had a vw bora 4 motion and they run the same system.
I noticed a lot of bad tyres last night! |

i think you have read too much into BigMike's response he is only expanding on some points. i wouldn't take it to heart.
i like to think what goes around comes around wrt to helping other people, plenty offered a fee to be recovered which i declined, i would rather one day someone offered to help me when i need it. Cheers James 110 2010 XS Utility 130 2011 M57 bespoke Camper 90 2010 Hardtop 90 M57 1988 Hardtop |

But it also comes down to insurance- What would your insurance company say if you had an accident pulling a BMW out of a ditch which resulted in damage to both vehicles (or even more)? Do you really think the guy who's bumper you just ripped off will say "Oh well, at least you tried to help I will put it all on my insurance"..... or will he say "This guy ripped my bumper off whilst trying to drag the car out.... his registration is **** "
Again in 2010 farmers offered to clear public highways with their loaders but were warned not to as they would be held responsible for any damage they cause to roads and if not done 100% would be liable to claims against them is someone has an accident. Response groups are only covered to respond to official call outs from government agencies- it isn't a case of Joe Blogs getting stuck and calling the 'Response hotline' as it wouldn't be covered. If he calls 999 as his wife is in labour on the back seat they will then organise the call-out of 4x4 response. Glyn ![]() ![]() |

Yep I got a call out for our 4x4 response team. Spent a lot of Monday driving an old folks care assistant around visiting many 'clients' in places you would never have got to in anything other than a Land Rover! All in all the team handled many calls on Monday including taking nurses out to remote properties, delivering blood around the county and getting people (both patients and healthcare workers) too and from hospital. There has also been a call out for help searching for a misper over the last two days, but no luck yet! Andy. BTW. It costs me nothing to be in 4x4 response. I get reimbursed 45ppm for fuel. I have no flashing lights (nor will I have!). I put a notice in the window when I'm on call. My insurance company do know about it and don't charge me for the privilege and we do get free training for a number of things from first aid, to vehicle recovery. Someone's gotta put something back into the system! Last edited by Andy Jeff on 23rd Jan 2013 1:35pm. Edited 1 time in total |

insurance point taken which is why i pointed out the risks and asked if they were willing to accept them prior to recovery. i did it with a copper there to note they had been asked too. there seemed to be alot of coppers stood around wanting something to do! Cheers
