Anyone had one of these? I'm having both sides fixed next Monday and I'm bricking it
![]() Any info would be very welcome (especially how long recovery takes). Doctors round here always "sugar coat" things ![]() Cheers Matt p.s. it's true - only when I laugh ![]() But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing... |

![]() Was more expecting something as the normal spine hernia. In the last year my father was down for 8 months before getting surgery. I guess with these things it is painful till removed/repaired. At least he was up and running after 3 days and an absolutely transformation from cripple to normal. Had something similar in my upper neck once and it was the same story, painful till cured and then all back to normal in "an instant". Wish you all strength and a quick recovery. ![]() |

I had that done (right side only) a while back (inguinal hernia IIRC) Had it done by keyhole surgery leaving three tiny scars. If you are having a cut done then my comments probably won't be appropriate for that.
It stung like hell as I had a bit of a reaction to the dressing. I had it on a friday and was back to (desk bound) work on the monday, although I was a bit stiff. If your'e not self employed like me then you'll probably be signed off for 4 weeks or so. In reality 2-3 weeks and everything seemed back to normal, but I still have to watch it a bit with anything too heavy as I get an occasional twinge, and have a belt to wear when I'm anticipating lifting anything much. Hope it all goes well (have a shave before you go or else you have to do it with what the hospital supply, which didn't look like a good option) It is a minor op but don't tell anyone else that, you should be able to milk it for sympathy for a couple of weeks or so ![]() ![]() DJ 1989 200tdi 90 csw 2011 110 usw Orkney grey Buy British 🇬🇧 Defender Clothing Designs available at http://www.rangesports.com/acatalog/Defender-Stuff.html |

If you have the same stuff as I did to knock you out then you won't notice too much going on, all the nurses will look hot through your dozy eyes

DJ - thanks for all the info and advice
![]() I am also having keyhole surgery, so it's very relevant - hadn't thought of shaving but I suppose they'll insist in case they ![]() ![]() I could be signed off for a few weeks but it doesn't suit me to stay at home... work (or rather friends) are much more entertaining and it can be a desk job for a while. Thanks to all others for the good wishes and p*sstaking - I'm sure it won't be the last. Apart from fear, I'm mostly hacked off because I'll probably miss the last of the good weather. I fear that crawling around changing downpipes might be off the cards for a while ![]() Cheers Matt Tell someone you love them today because life is short. But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing... |

Get someone else to do it for you? Then you have something to look forward too. Or ask your wife to pay (because she feels so sorry for you
![]() ![]() *EDIT* I mean the downpipe not the OP! ![]() ____/π¬π§πΊπΈ\____ _//*β½οΈπ’οΈβοΈπ§°*\\_ |

Thank you fekete - that's just what I needed
![]() I tried to watch some similar vids already but never got past the first few seconds ![]() Funny thing is, I trained in medicine (back in the 80s), so I shouldn't have a problem with it but it's very different when it's going to happen to me - and in such a sensitive area, with the main nerve and blood supply to both my 'nads ![]() Fortunately the wife had me sterilised already, so no risk there ![]() I'd rather they do it the old way and open me up so they can see what they're bloody well doing ![]() Suppose it's lucky they never let me near patients ![]() But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing... |

i had mine done about 12 years ago.
definately shave, i was advised to by the nurses at the pre-op consultaion. pulling a dressing off after a few days is bad enough without the added complication and pain of it being welded to your pubes. i was told no dirving, lifting, working etc for a number of weeks, can't remember how many. mine was on the left side and at that time i drove an auto so that leg was redundant anyway. i was driving the following day, however, light as the clutch is on my puma i may not have wanted to risk that amount of pressure. my op coincided with a house move which meant i could take the time off work and do plastering and decorating prior to moving in to the new property. i remember insisting on going home the same day, they had pumped so much anesthetic into my leg i couldn't move it. the nurses in the recovery room suggested standing me up to improve my circulation. lie down now and imagine not being able to slide your foot towards you by raising your knee. that was how i felt and as soon as they stood me up i fell forwards because i had no strength. i remember shuffling backwards up the staris at home on my arse because i daren't walk for fear of falling. following day, very little discomfort. don't fret, enjoy the time off and make it productive without straining yourself. |
