I have to get my head around this as it sounds dodgy.

Say I only had a B licence.

My Defender weighs 2650Kg (and has a tow capacity of 3500KG).... so I can have a trailer up to 750Kg.

But if I use my missus's Feroza (Weighs 1500Kg) I can tow up to 1499Kg.

That is Fu*ked up!!!

Glad I can tow anything without having to worry about that chart Mr. Green

Glyn Dog Sheep

Thats not quite the case Glyn.

If the 110 has a gross weight of 3050KG, (your 2650 sounds a bit low) then you can tow a trailer weighing upto 1200KG, as you are allowed a train weight of 4250KG.

I don't know what a Feroza is (goes to check google)

Hmmm, yes you may be able to tow more with that. I know one anomaly is you can two more with a swb Landrover than a lwb as the swb weighs less.

EDIT - that is my understanding, however the Ifor WIlliams flow diagram posted above would seem to say that you are limited to 750KG. :/ They seem to be saying that the train weight can only be reached if the trailer is less than 750KG MAM.

All I can say is I am glad I have my B&E as it makes life so much easier.

Talking to an agricultural engineer last week, he says VOSA will want tacho's on all vehicles that tow as part of a business, even if that is just once or twice a year? Anyone hear that?

Thats been the law for years. If you tow for hire or reward you need a tacho, hence why I have on in the 110.
Where it becomes a grey area is if you use a trailer as part of your business, for example a tree surgeon towing a mulcher - you can't get a clear answer from VOSA as to if that is considered hire and reward or not. I would say not, as the "work" is trimming trees, not driving.
The number of times used does not matter, you could have a class 1 artic that only makes one journey a year, that journey would still require a tacho and drivers hours rules to be followed. Interestingly you can drive a class C1 for personal use (eg moving house) without a tacho, but you cannot do that with a full-size class 2, you would have to use a tacho even if its for personal use.
