Cleaning the MAF & MAP sensors
Good day all,

Any advice on how to clean the MAF and MAP sensors - what to use, how to do it, etc?

Some pics would also be welcome, thanks Thumbs Up --

Hi Naks

I clean mine every 2 months using low residue Carb Cleaner spray.

I have been doing this for a full year without any issues what so ever.

MAF-- Remove electric plug, remove two screws, spray with copious amounts of carb cleaner, wait to dry and replace in correct flow direction.

MAP--remove electric plug, undo 1 bolt(think it is a no. 10 IIRC) give it a good pull to get out, spray, wait to dry replace.

Spray from more or less 10cm distance as not to damage sensors. DO NOT USE A COTTON WOOL BUD or any other object to clean, ONLY the spray.

Some poeple use electric cleaner spray but that feels very oily to me. I will not use that!

It would be interesting to see if the service life of the MAF sensor is increased by regular cleaning... 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon

Cleaned the sensors over the weekend.

The MAF was slightly gunked up, but the MAP was clean.

By comparison, the MAF in the Saab was clean, looked brand new. I couldn't get to the MAF in the Audi, it has a weird screw and I didn't have the match screwdriver in my toolkit. --
