Transmission Leak Advice
I know Defenders leak… I was hoping someone could help me decipher if the leak was my Defender simply saying hello or asking for help. The leak is somewhere from the transmission, I cannot quite tell from where though. Any ideas?

Have a look at your gearbox filler plug. You may find that it's blowing by.

Could be the front drive shaft seal. Mine looked like that even no oil was evident coming from the seal. The dealer changed the seal and all was o/k until the transfer box became rattly and was changed under warrenty.

jon,

Unsure on your model but make sur eyou are using the new oil pan for the engine as hte original one (2008-209) was on the course way of the front axle.

Also i just had my transfert cse sealing conpound on the plate cover that fail. LR dealer recommendation in SA is to use loctight type rather than LF genuine part.

Fixed. It was the transfer case seal. While the part number was correct, the seal I removed was 2mm bigger than the replacement. I am thinking that LR had a bad batch or something.

Thanks everyone

The part # is ICV100000 and it’s a standard LR part for the transfer case.

Good luck!

Thanks, for the part number. Unfortunately my problem has progressed. Upon further investigation and after removing my gearbox protection i was able to see where the leak was coming from. My righthand gearbox rubber mount had snapped which in turn caused my tx box to crack and leak. New Tx box recieved from Ashcroft 2 days ago, which hopefully i will manage to get into the 90 tomorrow. Pics of the damage to follow if i can workout how to get them on here.

Regards,

Mark
