Second technical problem with my MY2012 Defender
Hi

Today just below 11.000 km ( car less than 3 months old) my defender faced its second technical failure.

1st was turbo hose

2nd water hose. The waterhose running from the pump to the block was cut by a intercoolerhoseclip. This was in the middle section of the hose. Seeing the installation, others will face the same problem. It is just à matter of time the clips will cut trough.

I have made some pictures but I cannot upload these until Friday.

The problem came up on acceleration. There was an acute powerloss. The temp went from normal to extreme in 2 seconds.

Regards

Q.

Hi,

I had the Turbo hose go at about 2000km, just found the same clip rubbed through a radiator hose at 13,000km.

recall timer on poorly placed hose clips?

All the best

Thanks Q for making us aware of this, sorry to hear you and RedDef had to find out the hard way. Checked my water hose last weekend and it was also starting to rub on the same hose clip (after just 1500 miles) so I've put a piece of rubber around the intercooler hose and used a cable tie to pull it gently back towards the inner wing and away from the water hose. If the hose clip was turned through 90 degrees when fitted there wouldn't be a problem!

Cheers! Thumbs Up

Tony

My inter cooler hose went, turns out the pinch bolt on the steering column rubs the hose (great design)

The power loss and temperature issue may be to do with a loose connection on the main power relay.

I had lots of trouble with power loss and unexpected stalling, on the third attempt a Land Rover Assistance guy spotted the temperature gauge was at the max and said this was a common sympton of loose connections.

Having tightened all the crimps on the relay base, I haven't had the problem since. Barney
