In the UK, are you allowed to have a spare that is the same size but different make to the others? If so, surely you can save a bit of cash and use one of your good tyres as the spare, just for emergencies... Tell someone you love them today because life is short.
But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing...

As long as tyre size and type match yes you can have different makes of tyres legally.

Personally, I hate the the idea of mixing tyres, it just not feel right to me.

Me neither - just an idea for DC101 to "soften the blow" for a while Wink Tell someone you love them today because life is short.

I suppose a lot also depends on how you use your vehicle, there are hundreds of vehicles on the road that are only driven occasionally - say restored Series Land Rovers and Willys Jeeps for instance, they must be trundling around on old tyres and I would imagine that the owners wouldn't want to have to keep changing the tyres every 5-6 yrs for the sake of it.
The tyres on my 90 are still the original Grabbers and are 7 yrs old, starting to show their age but have good tread.
I rarely venture over 50 and inspect my tyres regularly for safety reasons but am well aware that shortly I will have to change and bite the bullet for the expense even though there's plenty of wear left.
The MOT has some guidelines about tyres, but if you turned up with filthy tyres they wouldnt be able to inspect them proficiently anyway

So anyone out there wishing to donate me some slightly worn tyres under a year old buzz me Laughing 2005 TD5 90 Hard Top

Thanks everyone for your input.

I have bitten the bullet and have purchased a set of St maxx for my 110. Seemed to tick all of my boxes. Fingers crossed. Will be getting them before heading south this weekend. Phoning around the availability of BFG's also seemed a bit hit and miss.

ZeDefender runs them and gave good feedback on this topic. I'm happy to add my thoughts if anyone is interested.

Late to this thread, but I must confess that I’m very easy on tyres, and rotate them on all my vehicles regularly (Why, when some manufacturers advise against? Equal wear until they all get to minimum tread depth means I can use one as the spare and only have to buy four; it gives me an opportunity to inspect the tyres and get the crud off the inside of the wheels; if there should be any uneven tread wear it identifies a suspension or tracking fault I need to get fixed).

So on each vehicle the tyres have often lasted more than five years - those on my infrequently used Morgan are now six years old and have 7mm tread left - but I’m not too worried about the manufacturers’ hype.

On the other hand, if I noticed any cracks or damage, I would (and have done) dump ’em immediately.
