United Kingdom 2011 Defender 90 Puma 2.4 XS CSW Galway Green
took it for a drive to Kingsbury Water Park and gave the dog a good walk, well worth a visit now for the kids and adults, minature railway, jet skis, water skiers, radio controlled boats, cyclists, loads for kids to do. Also saw a few land rovers including a smart green 60reg 110 XS CSW with chequer plate etc looked tidy. Came back vis Dobbies Garden World in Atherstone and loads of North Warwickshire country lanes DEFENDER 90 TDCI XS,

I hope everyone is well and your land rovers make you happy

This turned up today from that nice man at Duckworth parts:

I plan to fit it at the weekend (assuming it isn't raining again) in preparation for caravan towing duties at the end of next month. Anybody know of any reason why I won't be able to mount the socket in the hole in the rear crossmember? Darren

Great pictures.

can I ask what you used for tinting your windows?

Thanks

Sorry, missed your post..
Thanks.
I used normal tint you can get from your local motor factors, the whole lot cost under £8 !!!!!!

Cheers, going to the south of France in August and i was thinking it could help nosey peeps from prying and keep some of the heat out.

was it difficult to fit or quite straight forward? BM52

I do it to keep prying eyes out, ideally I will eventually replace my side panels for HT sides.
Here's how..
I made paper templates first (top tip Thumbs Up ), laid them on the tint and drew around, cut them out (get a parent to help Laughing ) making sure that you're on the right side of the tint...
Make sure the glass is spotless, I go all over the glass with a single edged blade, then clean.
Get soapy water, fairy will do, in a mister bottle (not Mr Bottle) soak the glass and as you're peeling the backing off the tint, spray that as it un-peels, use liberally, again get a parent to help to spray as you peel the backing off, apply on the glass, spray over and get bubbles out with the applicator supplied.

TAKE YOUR TIME ! Loads of soapy spray is the best hint !!! QRZ 2e0vpf

It's what the hole is for!

Yes, I know that, although the instructions with the kit show it mounted beneath the crossmember. What I was getting at though is whether the plugs on the loom fit straight through or have to be dismantled in some way. Darren

I thought the hole is a legacy thing - was certainly where the PTO shaft was located in Series vehicles. Obviously the fuel tank on TD5/Puma puts pay to that option though?!?

No, it's just coincidence (or convenience) that they're both in about the same place. Darren

No, the PTO hole goes all the way through, and is on the other side of the vehicle's centreline (it's lined up with the engine crankshaft/gearbox mainshaft/transfer box input shaft for obvious reasons). An awful lot of people seem to think that the current cross-member recess is somehow connected with a PTO; I guess it's one of those urban legend things now.

You might want to take a look at this thread on the subject.

I always thought the hole was to add air brakes so you can tow 4000kg coupled trailer.
