Hi
I am looking for the LR part KNK100090, the kit that allows you to bolt a hitch directly to the rear crossmember of a TD5. I have a feeling it may no longer be available as Google has not come up with any answers apart from it is not available. Not tried the dealers yet. I should be able to make the parts but would prefer the standard items. Try Yeovil and ask them to look for the item within the dealer network, Bob. See what they come up with.

Hi Mark
Threaded inserts should be there. I am after the spreader plate that goes over the cross member and the angle iron that goes under the cross member. I could just bolt into the cross member but think it would be better to spread the load. There are other options, 2" receiver the same as I have on the 110 or a Dixon Bates tow bar (202046). As the 90 is not classed as a commercial (the 110 is) I think the receiver is out ( I will find the MOT tester who refuses to pass it !) so the DB route may be best, and it is cheaper than a receiver ! I would have thought that a 2" receiver only becomes a towing attachment if you have a coupling fitted in it. I don't see how you could actually fail the MOT simply by having the receiver socket fitted, provided that you remove any coupling before the test. This doesn't of course alter the fact that it would be illegal to tow with it and you would also probably invalidate your insurance if they found out,
Also, don't forget that if you are being conscientious the coupling that you fit must also be type approved, so no NATO pintles. I find it very hard to believe that this latest bit of Euromadness will actually make the roads safer! How many accidents in a year are caused by the failure of an inadequately designed towing hitch? Very, very few, I would wager. |
