How to lower my suspension lift down to 2 inches
If I buy myself a set of 2" lift springs to lower my LR down from a 4" lift, do I need to replace the shocks too or can I keep using my existing ones?

I take it that replacing the springs is as simple as removing the wheel, undo the shock mount, lower the axle on a jack until the spring comes loose and replace as opposite?

Looking under the car it looks like my shocks are Pro Comp (looking rusty on the outsides), and all the springs are Blue in colour (not sure what make those could be) , and a bit rusty, paint flaking off. I have no real idea if these are a 4" lift other than my measurement taken of the body height compared to standard.

Ideally I'd like to replace shocks at the same time so its all refreshed at the same time, but its yet more cost.

What are people's views of Britpart springs and Super Gaz dampers from Paddocks? Lots of people on here seem to pour scorn on them. 2016 D4 HSE

Blue springs possibly are bearmach ones?

To change the rear springs it is prity much how you explained, but the front is vey different as the damper is inside the spring stopping the spring from coming off. So is more work, and can be difficult as dampers fixings become seized and rusty.

I would not put Britpart springs on my vehicle, it is the springs and dampers that make it handle and stop falling over and destroying itself, and you. I also belive that you fit cheap, you fit twice, and I've done this with suspension. I got to a point where I no longer liked driving it, then I spent some money, and normality returned.

The TR 90 had a 2" lift and pro comp shocks which leaked after about 18 months.

I spoke to Brooklyn 4x4 who used to service it and they recommended Britpart standard height HD springs and gas shocks.

They were faultless and gave a much better ride Thumbs Up John

By the sound of it you have the Bearmach springs (quite a few companies pair them up with the Pro-comps).

When I bought my Discovery (same suspension as a 90) it had the S**tpart yellow (HD) springs and shocks on it and it handled like a boat..... I don't know how long they had been on there though but were still yellow.... I then fitted the Bearmach blues with Pro-comps and the ride quality was 10 times better.

As mentioned above though, buy cheap buy twice.... why not look into a nice set of OMEs?.... Then you could sell what you have on ebay and make some of it back.

Hi RRUK,

A spring is a spring, its the quality of the damper which varies the ride and handling. Ok a poorly made spring may sag after a while but on the whole they are mostly the same.

Are you sure it has a 4" lift, thats quite a lot. I bought a set of Britpart springs after some research just after getting my Defender as I thought it had a lift, took them off and they were the same height as the standard Britparts so put them back on again.

From the floor to the top of the roof she is a little over 2 metres, my Jeep with a 4" lift and 35" tyres wasn't that tall. Confused

Anyway, got a set of 4 new Britpart springs in my garage. Standard but either front or rear is HD, think its the front. Your for free in North Warwickshire should you like them.

Steve,

Done lots of forum searching and reading - found someone mentioned that a std 90 spring can be measured and should be 300mm from top to bottom under weight, if its standard height, anything more is the lift you have.

I measured mine but they are 300mm at the front and about 1.5" higher at the rear! Which says they are std height..AAARRGGHH

The reason I think it MAY have a 4 inch lift is that I measured the top of the roof at the rear as 80.5" which is 4 " higher than in the owners manual...but I am now wondering if just have HD Bearmach springs and that's it! 2016 D4 HSE

I'm on 7.5 x 16 tyres too about 31.6" diameter or similar to 265/75/16 but narrower.

You sound confused now Laughing maybe mine is lifted...but no...err...but...I just left it in the end.

From wiki

Height 80 in (2,032 mm) (2000s 90)
80.2 in (2,037 mm) (1990s 90)
90.0 in (2,286 mm) (110)

post a side profile pic, a 4" lift is alot.

Terrafirma shocks are in a similar price bracket to the ones you list and work very well. Cheers

I got confused when lowering mine to go in car parks with different tyres etc.
Basically, if you're less than 2 m 5 cm tall you aren't lifted (that should allow for most tyres)

Mine is dropped 2" and it still looks high Thumbs Up
(I think wheels and tyres can make a huge difference to the optics) Tell someone you love them today because life is short.
But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing...

I would say you deffo have something on the back.

Your tires have a smaller diameter than standard so if it was on stock springs it should sit less than 2m high (about 1947.6mm to be more precise).

I would be tempted to see what numbers are on the springs and then work out what to change.

265/70 17's are only about 3mm smaller than 235/85 16's, i.e. within the tolerance of the tread wear. Darren
