While your decision to sell is completely understandable, I’d argue it’s less about the car or the company deteriorating and more about personal tolerance for uncertainty. The brand still produces vehicles that deliver unmatched character and presence — something few others in the segment can replicate.
Toyota? No thanks… |

The inverter failed last month on my 2022 Defender, the first issue l've had with it. Despite the cyber attack situation it was repaired and back to me within two weeks.
Any vehicle can break down. lf you're stressed about it (and l do worry "what if that inverter failed in the middle of nowhere or while towing the 'van in the highlands of Scotland" ) then you can subscribe to a recovery service that will provide a replacement vehicle while yours is recovered. Land Rover Assist are actually very good. On this occasion they struggled to supply a courtesy vehicle as everyone was in the same boat (loads of vehicles waiting for parts) What vehicle do you plan to buy, that will be better? |

'Better' is a huge word in relation to the point I think you are trying to make.
There is nothing better. Better at being good on road and off, better brand kudos, better rugged looks (subjective). There isn't a single car that I can think of. So I'm getting 2. I picked up a GR Yaris for the fun weekend thing. I will get a separate family bus to fullfil that side of things, through my business as tax efficient. |

l meant better in the sense that it's less likely to make you stressed about something going wrong with it.
There's been very few thefts of the new Defender. To be honest l would be much more worried about the GR Yaris as that's a favourite with the car thieves. |

I'm glad you posted that, lightning. I wasn't aware of the new Defender being any more at risk than most cars of that ilk.
There was the issue with the Land Rover name and insurance generally when the RR Sports were being taken and the insurance underwriters had a melt down (understandably in my opinion) I would whole heartedly agree with the customer service from the main dealers is poor and spare parts availability could be seen as a problem. Even before all this trouble with hacking, my Indie Garage told me that spare parts availability from LR Dealers was hit and miss and there were no guarantee in getting items which weren't in stock in a timely manner. This is the problem JLR has got. The days of selling cars to an enthusiast who would put up with their 'strange manners' no matter what, because they loved their vehicle has more or less gone. They are now selling to the mainstream who have had numerous marques of car in the past and assume (rightly or wrongly) that their aftersales service will match Mercedes, BMW, VW etc etc. It's one thing creating a good car, but the excitement of the newness of it gets tarnished by poor aftersales. A lot of these owners will not have that brand loyalty which you see from the majority of the people who post on here and when their lease is up, or if they feel uncomfortable with their purchase, they will move onto the next 'new' or 'in vogue' model from whichever manufacturer that might be. billy2shots, I think you did extremely well on only losing 8% in 11 months. That probably says a lot about the demand for the new Defender at present, but JLR need to know that it won't go on forever. And if they think it will, they are just delusional. |

We have a number of cars on our fleet, not just JLR products..
I'm always looking at different models, Porsche Taycan, VW ID buzz even a Tesla at one point and many others... I join forums and the like to see what the score is with actual owners of these cars... Generally like ANY forum you only EVER hear bad things. When I had a FF RR they were 'all a ticking time bomb' Ours was faultless over 6 years... One of my wifes cars is a P300 Hybrid evoque... oooh my god just bin it according to forums.... for us its been absolulty superb.. However what I'm amazed at is the likes of the VW id Buzz, Polestar type computers on wheels whereby the dashboard just goes off... or reports brake failure or drive train issues... and this is classed as 'normal' it will clear.... Yet as a buyer (I will come to that) everyone seems to put up with it..... So onto being a 'buyer'.... Pretty much gone of the days people 'own' cars, its pretty much how much is that a month and what can I afford... so the list price of say £50K does not register if its £5K down and £399 a month... for 48 / 72 months then give it back... Drive out in the next version and do the same.. Are we just putting up with stuff that isn't built properly in the first place? Accepting faults and 'they all do that', it will clear just switch it off. I would be interested to see what you change for, maybe we all need to report the good stuff on cars we own rather than the bad... ![]() |

l never use the main dealer, unless l have to for warranty work.
Fortunately there's a specialist dealer near to me that has all the LR diagnostic equipment and software so they can also record services etc. l have to say at three years old l am concerned about repair costs, l would have to have an extended warranty if l keep the vehicle. |
