Lights coming on when braking
Hi everyone.

Just recently started to get a problem when braking: a relay clicks and the lights come on.

I’ve changed the rear bulbs, but this had no effect.

Switching the lights on causes the brake lights to come on all the time.

Any suggestions anyone.?

Thanks

Most likely an earthing problem. Check and clean your earth points. Add a smear of vaseline on reassembly to keep the water out in the future.

I had a similar problem with my old TD 110. When braking, the indicators would come on and red lights on the dash would come on dimly. When the indicator was used the brake light would come on. Eventually I figured out that the wires in the loom must have been shorting out ( causing the dash lights to come on dimly ) and sending power to the wrong things. I traced the wires, brakes and flashers, cut them at both ends and ran new ones. Problem solved. I read on here that the wires can rub through where they sit in the chassis.

Another problem on my current 110 was caused by bad connections in the ( new ) tail light units, causing heat, shorting, melted plastic along with fuse blowing when the brake was applied.. These were replaced with Led units, which solved that. I’ve also had several brake light switches, but not since replacing with LEDs. 1983 110 automatic OM606
