Inverter failure
So, this morning my 2022 Defender displayed a warning "charging system fault detected"
Battery voltage 11.7

So l assume the inverter has failed, not an uncommon fault l believe.

Fortunately the vehicle is still under warranty, l pressed the "SOS" button on the roof console thinking it was Land Rover Assist.

There was a broken robotic voice that l couldn't understand so l left it and called LR Assist on my phone.

Ten minutes later the Police turned up. So it must have gone through to someone and my lack of a response was interpreted as l've had an accident?

Anyhow, l know a few on this forum have had the inverter replaced. Once replaced is it likely to fail again? The vehicle has only done 25,000 miles and if it fails again in a couple of years outside of the warranty l imagine it won't be cheap to replace.

l would hope LR has improved the part to reduce the failure rate.

LR Assist are coming out this afternoon so l'll update when they've been.

Depends which engine… I have P400 and inverter/generator was giving faults. Software update resolved it and it has been perfect since

Well the LR Assist say it needs a new inverter. lt's strange that it was fine yesterday when l parked it up, l moved it a few feet down the drive yesterday to wash it then put it back afterwards.

This morning it's showing the charging system fault.

I don't know how long it will take Land Rover to get to it, once it's been recovered to them. But if it's just software it shouldn't take too long to repair.

My 2024 D350 was at the dealer for 2 months awaiting a replacement DC DC converter. Hope yours gets fixed quicker!
I’ll be going back to a 2012 Sport once this pcp is over in 2027. Way simpler car to maintain 😜 MY25 90 D350 X-Dynamic HSE in Silicon Silver and coil sprung

Oh dear…
Don’t get your hopes up for a quick repair.
Our Velar was due a service last Friday and it was cancelled due to part’s availability following the Hack.
They wouldn’t even re book it in!… suggesting we would be lucky to get it done this year.

Well, they've offered a courtesy vehicle (apparently l am "entitled" to one) so as long as l am mobile that's the important thing. as l need my vehicle for business.

Otherwise l do have a Suzuki Jimny that l can use. No point in having a go at the dealer, blame it on the cyber criminals

Take it to an independent Land Rover specialist for the service, genuine oil filters are certainly available online, and the oil change is the most important thing. lt won't invalidate your warranty

I’ve just had a recall on my car, part of it is a software update to the DC to DC convertor . So maybe this is a fix to stop these failures 110 XS 250 MY 23 Gondwana Stone, Cold climate pack and towbar

Mine failed on startup. l've read somewhere that there is an issue with them failing in this way.

Hopefully the software update will stop it from happening, as you suggested.

l will update when l hear back about mine, it's now with the dealer.

Well, if you are having technical difficulties with your car, you must not press SOS but the wrench symbol wich connects you to LR assist. SOS is for accident or medical issues... New Defender 110 D200 S | Freelander 2 SD4 Metropolis

Yes l found that out! l will know not to press it for Land Rover Assist in the future.

lt wouldn't have been so bad if l could understand what the person or bot was saying when l pressed the button, l had no idea so just had to eventually ignore it.

Update

lt does need a new inverter. The part has been ordered but there's no timeframe on delivery. They've promised to update me "weekly"

So who knows. Not their fault, blame the cyber criminals. I will be provided with a courtesy vehicle.

have you picked up your classic 110 utility wagon to use in the meantime? (I'm curious how the bodyshop fixed the holes left by the snorkel).

l am waiting for it to be MOT'd and serviced. I went to the bodyshop while it was there, it had been done and looked great.

They also repainted the windscreen surround. l Assume the holes were filled and then painted. Looking at it you can't tell there was a snorkel previously fitted.
