Wales 2008 Defender 110 Puma 2.4 USW Zermatt Silver
Wiper stalk replacement
Afternoon all,

Could someone please tell me why these two bolts arent just a standard 6mm socket to come undone.

6mm is too small and 7mm Is too big.

It will be because they're not ISO metric fasters, they'll be an earlier standard. On a Defender that could be almost anything, from BA to BS, UN to ISO. It's intended to keep us guessing and to keep buying tools.

To be boringly pedantic they're also not actually bolts, they're set screws and most likely thread-forming ,such as a Taptite form.

Be careful not to over tighten the collar around the steering column, I had a collar on there crack once.
Not by my doing but fatigue over time.

So just a little tip on that, there is a torque setting for that screw which is a low figure in the WSM.
I think 1NM.
(Don’t quote me on that).

I know this isn’t the bolts mentioned originally, but worth bearing in mind.
