i suspect itll be n1 or n2 on v5 so a commercial spec so i would say van insurance.
suspect wheels are aftermarket as they are not the oe spec of silver n black but to most folk they look std so thats what i would go for |

l have just done an online quote with Carole Nash and had a very good price of under £600 for 12 months cover.
l put down the aftermarket wheels, tow bar and side steps as "modifications" l've no NCB because it's on my existing Defender which l am keeping. But Carole Nash seem to have given a discount based on my NCB on the other car. l will need to call them tomorrow to make sure it's not too good to be true. NFU offered an "introductory discount" of 45% but their quote was still just over £1,300 Couple of other quotes were around the £1,000 mark. l have to say, the NFU policy was very good with hardly any excess and everything included where the Carole Nash quote doesn't even include legal expenses which was an extra. But l can't afford £1,300 Last edited by lightning on 16th Sep 2025 7:15pm. Edited 1 time in total |

I’m with the RAC with my 90 puma hardtop . I received an email from them 2 weeks ago to say that as from November they will no longer insure it as it is a van. The policy is underwritten by Aviva whom they said to contact direct for a quote .

When I was running my Utility I went for van insurance. They asked if it was private or commercial use and even had drop down menus for roof racks, tow bars and winches! 1984 One-Ten CSW

Don't forget forumn sponsor A-Plan, sorry Howden Thatcham office!
They look like 18" sawtooth, so will be aftermarket. I think on the V8 Special Editions got 18" from factory. Currently Carole Nash are quoting £560 including business use, and aftermarket wheels/side steps/towbar declared.
That's with effectively no NCB as l am keeping my other Defender. l'll give A-Plan a try in the morning. |

Basically I tell the insurance all items that are not standard,
They will be quick enought to get out of anything if they find out your car is not as insured... Those are 18" and will be aftermarket on your car. wheels A frame Remap Seats Wheel towbar led lights Everything is listed, the only thing that really adds is the remap and even then its not much as its hardly quick. |

All Defenders after 2011 were "Commercial" to avoid emissions legislation.
Had a quote from A-Plan (Howdens) the girl was very helpful but it was over £1,000 |
