lnsurance question
Trying to get temporary insurance cover on a Defender 110 XS Utility.

In the quote it asks if it's a "car" or a "van". Technically it's neither. There's no phone number to ring it's all online.
So nobody to ask.

What would you put down, car or van?

RAC are the only company that will quote, l called their car insurance department but they said the temporary car insurance was "nothing to do with them" and they couldn't answer my question. They also said there's no phone number.

Also it stipulates that the vehicle is "not fitted with alloy wheels that were not standard or a factory option" and l don't know if these were, or not. Again nobody to ask.

Were these wheels a factory option ?

Can’t answer the alloys question but my utility is insured as a van (NFU) if that helps? Shafski

i suspect itll be n1 or n2 on v5 so a commercial spec so i would say van insurance.

suspect wheels are aftermarket as they are not the oe spec of silver n black but to most folk they look std so thats what i would go for

l have just done an online quote with Carole Nash and had a very good price of under £600 for 12 months cover.

l put down the aftermarket wheels, tow bar and side steps as "modifications"

l've no NCB because it's on my existing Defender which l am keeping. But Carole Nash seem to have given a discount based on my NCB on the other car.

l will need to call them tomorrow to make sure it's not too good to be true. NFU offered an "introductory discount" of 45% but their quote was still just over £1,300

Couple of other quotes were around the £1,000 mark. l have to say, the NFU policy was very good with hardly any excess and everything included where the Carole Nash quote doesn't even include legal expenses which was an extra. But l can't afford £1,300

I’m with the RAC with my 90 puma hardtop . I received an email from them 2 weeks ago to say that as from November they will no longer insure it as it is a van. The policy is underwritten by Aviva whom they said to contact direct for a quote .

When I was running my Utility I went for van insurance. They asked if it was private or commercial use and even had drop down menus for roof racks, tow bars and winches! 1984 One-Ten CSW
